Rodney D. Hyduk, DDS, MSD is a resident trained specialist in orthodontics/dentofacial orthopaedics. His merits as a notable craniofacial orthodontist have been earned through commitment to education, focus and hard work. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and was recently elected  President to the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics for 2012. He also maintains an officer position on the Board of Directors, for the College of the American Board of Orthodontics Foundation. His interests include the treatment of cleft lip and palate, craniofacial anomalies, skeletal malformations, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, head and neck pain and sleep disorder patients, all with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to the correction of these problems.
After graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Hyduk participated in a rotating internship at Sinai Hospital, Detroit. He also completed an orthodontic residency at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was affiliated with major hospital-medical centers with craniofacial anomaly teams on the east coast.
Dr. Hyduk has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on various topics including facial deformities, early orthodontic/dentofacial orthopedics, adult orthodontics, temporomandibular joint disorders, head and neck pain, headaches and sleep disorders as they relate to orthodontics/facial orthopaedics.
He has served as a pre-clinical instructor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, a clinical instructor at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry and a clinical and grand rounds instructor at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. Dr. Hyduk was one of the the original committee members for the Continuing Education Institute at the University of Detroit Mercy and continues working closely with the Department of Continuing Education.
His professional affilliations include the American Association of Orthodontists, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists and is an active member with the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Hyduk is past president (1989-90) of the University of Detroit Mercy Dental Alumni Board of Directors and honored by the university as "1994 Alumnus of the Year" He was elected again in 2003 to serve on the board and is currently Immediate Past President after a second term.
He is a medical staff member of William Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak and Troy, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Pontiac and Crittenton Hospital, Rochester. He is a senior member of the Ian Jackson Craniofacial & Cleft Palate Clinic at Beaumont Royal Oak, through the Department of Neurosurgery.  He is also an associate professor of the William Beaumont School of Medicine, Rochester, MI.  Dr. Hyduk maintains a dental resident teaching positon at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital.
Over the years, Dr. Hyduk has seen the patient age span vary significantly, and is now treating patients from infancy to mature adults. A significant part of his patient care is centered on mature adults. He believes the growth in adult care is attributed to more attractive cosmetic braces, increased comfort during treatment and decreased treatment times. "For example, the braces used today for the correction of misaligned teeth can be translucent or even completely invisible, placed behind the teeth. This minimizes or completely eliminates the patient's concern for a less attractive appearance. Treatment that at one time would take years can many times be completed in less than a year", says Dr. Hyduk. Most of these benefits are the result of an increased understanding in biomaterial, biomechanics and craniofacial growth and development.
