Dr. Rodney T Routsong, DO

I saw Dr. Routesong in 2011?2012? I had a 2cm tubular foreign object in my spine at the time, but no one was telling me. When I saw Dr. Routesong, he told me how he loved long car rides in Maryland. Then he told me "tell us why you lied and then we will help you. There's still time to save you,why did you lie?" I went over my entire history. He said "why are you telling me this?" I ask him " what do you think im lying about?" He got my chart and started writing as he spoke out loud(i can't remember exact words anymore) absolutely no reason for pain,nothing wrong,everything looks good. Then he looked me straight in the eye and said do you see how it works? Why is Dr. Routsong covering for a neurosurgeon in another state? Neurosurgeons take a secret oath to themselves. Im trying to find out what the words to this oath are. I have reported this to Arkansas board of medicine and many others. Dr. Routesong also sent me to a psych ward,while in hospital for excruciating back pain. The… psychiatrist ,with witness present,told me "your either mentally ill or your a liar,these are your options. I'm not going to let Him go down,because he did it for someone else." They were trying to force me to say I was not in pain and to force me to get up and do activities while I was in excruciating pain. A visiting nurse from Australia told me in private " it's not you,it's them. Its worse in Australia if your up against a powerful person". Welcome to America.

Patients expecting to work with Dr.Routsong had better be prepared with deep pockets. While looking around for a new primary care physician, I was interested in getting to know this neurosurgeon recently retired to family practice. I called first to see the best way to do that. I was told the appropriate approach was to make a consultation visit at around $50. I arrived ontime for the visit, completed the paperwork and waited to see him. Once into the consultation, he spent about an hour impressing me with his extensive experience. That was fine; that was what I was there for, after all. I am basically healthy and just need to have a connection with a doctor in case of future unknown needs arising. He asked to do a very brief physical exam. It took less than a tenth of the total time . I came away with nothing of benefit--no Rx, Dx, referrals--only an extenisve knowledge of Dr. Routsong's impressive CV. One and a half hours later I was back in my car having been told my bill would… be TRIPLE the original price since I had taken so long. Hmmm. Had I been told there would be a price differential based on time alotted I might have been less interested in the details of his experience! After expressing concern to the receptionist, she agreed to talk to the doctor about it. That was a week ago and, to date, I still have no response. Online I read where the average first time visit in our area for a primary care physican is $89. Should I hear from them I will update this post. But after multiple calls and no response, I am not holding my breath. Wished I could afford to work with him--seemed like he knew alot. But there is no way I can financially handle this kind of bait and switch. Good luck with that...

This Dr. severed nerves in a relatives back during a procedure and did irreparable damage. Imagine having to catheterize yourself for the rest of your life! And not being able to feel anything from the waist down. He had to leave our area as well.

Dr.Routsong is very kind & caring, but beware if you go under his knife. My husband ended up having 2 more surgery on his spinal stenosis to fix what he messed up. Actually he had to leave our area as a result of this happening to so many.

A girlfriend of mine once recommended Dr Routsong as a doctor I needed to see. I was experiencing problems that my current doctor couldn't figure out. I went to the doctor and after he listened to all of my symptoms, he asked questions that previous doctors hadn't, and many that I wouldnt have thought of or thought to be relevant. He also explained the sitation and my diagnosis to me in terms that I could understand, and could help explain to my family. One of the most personable and kind doctors I've ever been to.

Dr Routsong was probably the best out of all of the surgeons we've seen. He listened to my husband, about what he felt and thought and actually took the time to talk to us as people, not only "a case". Other doctors treated us as just a number in line to be cured, but Dr Routsong actually sat down and lsitened. He didnt pressure us into anything, said that our fears and concerns were valid. He told us what he thought would be best, but let us decide the course of action we wanted. I couldnt believe how "human" he was and how much he seemed to listen and care. I've since refered many friends and all have had a great experience with him, all felt the same that we did. Definitly the only Neurosurgeon we'll use again.

best neurosurgeon i have had the pleasure of working with,professionally proficient in his diagnosis for his patients and spiritually connected with his concern of patient care,if he was still in missouri, he would be the only neurosurgeon i would need for my pinched nerve problems right now,mt.crocker&yahoo.com

Dr. Routsong didn't want to do a resection on my mom's brain tumor and discouraged us from finding a doctor who would be more aggressive. As a result, we were watching her die of something that was treatable. We took her to UAMS in LR, a doctor there did a fantastic job getting the tumor out, and she's recovering wonderfully. Routsong basically told us to gather the family and asked mom to consider her "legacy". We decided we'd rather TREAT the disease and have a few more years with her than just say goodbye because of his decision that she was doomed. If you have a brain tumor anywhere other than just beneath the skull, go to UAMS first.
