Went to him for 2nd opinion. First he only looked at my mri slides for first time while I was there. I had a distended stomach and was unknowingly obstructed at the time. He did not seem to care about my symptoms of obstruction but was berating me for not doing chemo after my radiation. Seems like I had to make him pay attention to that. Was not at all nice. If I were to go here …I would never go to this pompous unsympathetic ever. I ended up in ER by my house next day and had emergency surgery. I went to a great doctor for my LAR and reversal at Northwestern in Palos and got it robotically (he doesn’t do that)…

Dr. Hearst performed a colon ectomy with a J-pouch on me in 2003. Meeting with him a week prior to the surgery, he was soft spoken, and in no hurry to leave the exam room before answering all our questions. Dr. Hurst took the time after surgery to make sure that I understood what life is going to be like when I get home. The past 18 years have been a testament to his skill as a surgeon. I lead a very normal life, eat a very normal diet and have experienced a very well functioning small bowel ever since. Subsequent physicians performing routine endoscopies have remarked on the fine work and lack of scarring seen on my J-pouch. Thank you Dr. Hurst and all of the professionals in the Dr. Stephen Hanauer practice who quite frankly, gave my life back to me. I apologize for having it taken 18 years to write.
