My wife took my daughter to this office to have a filling redone, and my daughter has type 1 Diabetes. It was clear from the start Dr. Lucas had very little knowledge about the disease, but it was going to be his way, or no way. The office said that no insulin could be given prior to the appointment, which was in the morning so, although she would have to skip breakfast not too bad, except that she woke up with a slightly high blood sugar of 210 (target is 120, but at night it is 180) which is not unusual because there are constant adjustments to dosing that happen with this disease. Well they show up for the appointment, and he won't treat her because her blood glucose is out of range, but still insists she can't have insulin. Now since with type 1 you don't produce your own insulin, the BG isn't going to come down on its own unless your on too high of a dose of long acting insuline. Also by this point they had already given my daughter the valium and it is wearing off. My wife… informs Dr. Lucas that his understanding of how the BG and insulin work isn't correct, and explains it to him. At this point he starts to yell at my wife, so now both my wife and daughter are in tears, and Dr. Lucas isn't going to do the work unless my wife begs and apologizes. I don't know what kind of doctor, would put their ego above a patients safety, or get off on having people beg for service but he should not be practicing on humans as far as i am concerned. We will never go back here, and certainly if you care about your children, and they have any sort of disease, I would vet that they understand it before going.
