Rohan K Patel, MD, MPH

Dr. Patel is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, specializing in gastrointestinal cancers and brain/central nervous system tumors. His clinical expertise includes stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery and Gamma Knife, MR-guided adaptive radiation therapy, and proton therapy.Prior to joining MCW, he completed residency at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center/Case Western Reserve University, where he served as Chief Resident and trained in advanced radiation technologies. His academic work bridges radiation oncology, public health, global oncology, and innovation. He has led and contributed to grant-supported initiatives advancing artificial intelligence education in oncology, implementing AI-enabled radiation therapy tools in resource-limited settings, and improving patient education globally. His research has been published in The Lancet Global Health, The Lancet Regional Health – Americas, …International Journal of Radiation Oncology-Biology-Physics, Journal of Neuro-Oncology, Advances in Radiation Oncology, and Journal of Clinical Oncology - Global Oncology.Dr. Patel also holds a secondary appointment in MCW's Institute for Health & Humanity. As a gay Asian American and Pacific Islander physician raised in the Chicago area, he brings a personal commitment to inclusive cancer care, community engagement, and mentorship. His broader work seeks to strengthen access to high-quality cancer care locally and globally.My approach to patient care begins with seeing the person beyond their cancer diagnosis. I strive to understand each patient's values, priorities, concerns, and lived experiences so that we can make treatment decisions together using the best available evidence and provide the highest quality of care. A cancer diagnosis can be one of the most vulnerable and uncertain moments in a person's life. I consider it a privilege to be present for patients and their families during that time, helping them feel informed, supported, and confident that they are not navigating their care alone. I am committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for every patient. Race, ethnicity, culture, language, socioeconomic circumstances, gender identity, and sexual orientation can shape a person's experience with cancer and the health care system, and these perspectives deserve to be recognized as part of thoughtful, individualized care. I value close collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure treatment is personalized, coordinated, and attentive not only to cancer outcomes, but also to quality of life and the impact of treatment on daily life.
