My daughter and I have been patients of Dr. Desai (Stone Mountain Family Medicine) for over a year now. 90% of the visits to his office have been for my daughter and not necessarily because she needed them. It is my belief the Dr. Desai and his business are milking Medicaid for services. He makes incessant appoints for no reason, some of the appointments were a week apart on a frequent basis and other were 2-weeks apart. Not until I started to complain did he begin to stretch them out. Information that could have been given over the phone, he required and office visit for and did full work-ups during the appointments as if we had never been there before. My daughter had a blood test at one visit and a few days later, his office called me stating that he blood test were abnormal and that there was a problem. I asked if he could tell me over the phone because I was just there and had prior obligations and he state "No" that I had to come in with my daughter immediately. So, I rushed over… in a panic, just for him to do another full work up visit and he then says....your daughter is slightly"Amemic" and that she needs iron pills. The other issue was that he would prescribe medication that she would need on an on-going bases with only monthly refills. He would then force another office visit to receive a prescription for the next month. I complained again that we did not have time to come to his office several times a month, that when he began to give adequate refills like a normal physician. The most recent issue was in regards to me...I made an appointment for an issue with my throat, went in and saw his Nurse Practioner and was given two medications. Within 3-days my throat had gotten worse, to the point that I could barely swallow without pain and inflammation. I called Dr. Desai's office when I woke the morning afraid that there was a side affect from the medication. I called and spoke with the on-call service at 7:29am, 8:21am, 8:49am and the operator paged him each time. I was then forced to call the office at 9:04am for a walk-in appointment. After I was put in the room, Dr. Desai walks in, my statement question to him was, "I called you 3 times this morning with questions about the medication given to me. Is it your practice to "NOT" call your patients back when they page you???" His response was, "If it was an emergency, you would have gone to the emergency room and if not, you can make an appointment to come into the office like you did.". Then he goes on to state, I will see you today but if you don't like the way I work then you can find another doctor. My response to him was that I would and it is his responsibility to at least respond to his patients, he then cut me off to say that he doesn't like my personality with some other inaudible communications. When my appointment was over, I signed medical release forms to send my records to another physician. Another issue is that, if you are in need of weight loss medication, he will not prescribe you that medication, he would however, offer "HIS" weight loss service and medication that is not covered by insurance, not only the the medication but the physical for the medication must be paid in cash by the patient. This is a severe conflict of issue because he is providing stand alone service that can be covered by insurance, at least in part, but he has separated them and charges a fee for them. He also charges $40.00 to give patients a copy of their Medical Records but will send them to another physician at no charge. He doesn't have adequate facility space for test his patients, his medical equipment and machine are out in the open in the middle of his office space. So if you need your hearing or throat checked or eye checked, you have to walk outside of the private room and do it in the middle of his office's work space with people sitting and walking around you. All patients should have some expectation of privacy when visiting their physician. The setting there is extremely dark and gloomy and sightly unkempt. There are plenty other concerns with this office but you can investigate it yourself and see what I mean.

The office was disgusting. The nurses didn't have gloves on preparing my utensils. The bathroom had pee on the floor. Desai seemed like he was rushing through my exam which hurt by the way. He didn't answer my questions. He made me come back for something he could have done that day which of course means more money. He gave me personal,information with the door wide open while very loud . If you don't have money to go to a good doctor then yes I recommend it but it really is a waste of time and money
