Dr. Ron Russell Allison, MD

Ron R. Allison received his Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College in 1983, from where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. In 1987, he received his Medical Degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical School. Dr. Allison completed his internship at Kings County Hospital Center in 1988 and completed his residency in 1991 at SUNY Health Science Center, where he was named as chief resident.

He then joined SUNY-Buffalo and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Roswell Park Cancer Institute as an attending physician first as Assistant then Associate Professor. In 2000, Dr. Allison came to Greenville, NC and joined the ECU Brody School of Medicine as Professor and Chair of Radiation Oncology and also served as director of the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center. He was also named a full member of the UNC Lineburger NCI Cancer Center.

He joined Carolina Radiation Medicine/21st Century Oncology in 2010 as director and has introduced state-of-the-art Rapid Arc therapy …and Calypso tumor tracking technology among numerous other innovations. He is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist by the American Board of Radiology and a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, as well as a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and numerous other societies.

Dr. Allison has additional post graduate training and certification in Cyberknife radiosurgery, Gamma Knife, Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Photodynamic Therapy and High Dose Rate Brachytherapy. He has performed several hundred Prostate Brachytherapy procedures and is a teacher for this procedure. He has authored over 100 oncology publications and has delivered over 200 presentations at oncology meetings and forums worldwide. He is an editor/reviewer for over a dozen oncology journals and has contributed numerous chapters on radiation oncology and photodynamic therapy to the standard textbooks in these fields.

Dr. Allison and his wife Patty have restored and live in a historic home in the University District of Greenville. They are also highly involved in many charitable and civic organizations for which they donate their time and effort. Dr. Allison continues to play the Bassoon with professional orchestras and studies under professor of Bassoon Chris Ulffers.
