Dr. Alvarez has been a vital piece to my treatment and recovery. I asked him to release me from his care, but he gave me an extension of two more years to be sure my healing remained. My husband and I agreed.

It was 10 years that I first met Dr. Alvarez, who was in charge of my mother's care at UAB in Oct. 2009. You showed her and my family so much care and compassion that I will never forget. I appreciate the professionalism of you and your team. Although, my mother didn't survive. I will forever thank God for the care you provided to her and my family. As head of the cancer center at Vanderbilt, it seems he is more concerned with his administrative duties (and his ego) and MUCH LESS concerned with patient care or treatment. He didn't even bother looking over my chart or any medical background before giving me treatment advice. He's just trying to get through another appointment. VERY VERY unsatisfied!!

Dr. Alvarez is one of the best in the field, if not the best! To the review that said he lets the students take care of you, that's not true. Dr. Alvarez is the person over your care. Yes, he does have students; UAB is a teaching hospital. Students are involved at all teaching hospitals. Dr. Alvarez personally called me to tell me that the cancer had not spread, stage I. He also answered every question I had or do have. I've never felt rushed by him or the staff. They are the best at the worst time of your life. I left my home in Atlanta to be treated by him.

This has been 19 years in the making, but you made a big difference in the lives of myself and family. You took care of my mother, Barbara Reynolds in 1995, even though she did not live, you never failed to show the up most respect for her and her care. You did everything that you could to save her. I appreciate everything that you and your staff did for her. Again Thank you and God Bless you.
