As department chair, he is responsible for radiology at four campuses - UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus, Mount Zion and China Basin, San Francisco General Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Francisco. Arenson was a systems engineer at IBM from 1963 to 1970. After serving in the Navy at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., he joined the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and served as associate chair of clinical services in Radiology and interim vice provost for Computing. Arenson, the Alexander R. Margulis Distinguished Professor of Radiology, joined UCSF in 1992 as radiology chair. He is a fellow of the American …College of Radiology and the Society of Computer Applications in Radiology. He also is president-elect of the Association of University Radiologists and past president of the Academy of Radiology Research.
