Dr. Ronald Lowell Chaffin, MD

I went to Dr. Chaffin so that IF a problem developed I would have a cardiologist I could call on. Since I have had a heart attack before I know how quickly things can change and a need for a cardiologist could arise. I told him how I felt and the reason for my visit with him. He then had the nurse call my husband in so he could talk to him as well. He then told my husband that I needed a heart cath immediatly, that I was a heart attack in the process. You have to also understand that this Dr. made this decision simply by talking to me. He had not even used his stethiscope to listen to my heart, much less any other test of any kind. Maybe he is physic and can just tell by seeing his patient. A few years later I went back to him because I thought that I was having problems with my heart. He wanted to do a heart cath again. Again I refused so he prescribed a medication to take. It did seem to help for a while but then I felt worse so he increased the dose. I felt worse and worse so… I called him back. He said to go to the hospital. I did. I was hooked up to all kinds of moniters. The one that monitered my bood pressure kept going off. It was extremely loud but the hospital staff could do nothing about it, they said the doctor had to come and examine me and he was the only one who could turn it off. Mind you I called the doctor about 4 that afternoon. I was well after 7 before he got to me. Everyone was so glad when he turned that alarm off! He did the heart cath, found nothing, told me to keep taking the meds he prescrbed and come back to see him in 4 months! Nothing about why I was experincing the problems I had or what I should be doing about it. So I went to my primary care doctor. It turned out that the meds was bringing my blood pressure way too far down and it was my lungs that were giving me the problems that I was experiencing, not my heart. The only reason I listened to this heart doctor in the fist place was because after having a heart attack I was always afraid of having another one. A heart doctor was who I beleived I should have gone to in the first place. I now wish I had gone to my primary care doctor first.
