Dr. Ronald Charles Gobeil, DO

Took the time to listen, I never felt rushed. Remembered much of our prior session discussions on follow ups. I had seen him for over 5 years for bipolar disorder with manic episodes. He helped me recover to a stabile life.

I am a former patient of Dr. Gobeil. I should have written this 4 years ago when I saw Dr. Gobeil on multiple dates but thought I should wait until I could be objective. I went to him because he had ADHD listed as one of his specialties. I encountered long wait times with each appointment yet no one was in his office with him (I watched his door while waiting). He asked a few generic questions and fell asleep during every appointment. He did not do an in-depth assessment, prescribe any medication, or recommend a treatment plan. But, he did take me off medications that I had been on for years from my Neurologist and GP even after I explained why I was taking them. I suffered from that action and was reprimanded from my neurologist for going against his orders. When I had my next visit with Dr. Gobeil, I told him how I was suffering after going off my medications and told him my doctors wanted to know why he took me off them as they were working for me and I was not given an… explanation. He asked ME why I went off those meds! I reminded him that HE instructed me to do that over a one week timeframe (even though I informed him that I had been warned about discontinuing these meds too quickly) and that I had questioned him THEN as to why, but got no answer other than, “you don’t need them, just, stop taking them”. His response to his previous direction was that “he didn’t remember doing that and maybe I should go back on them”! I asked about my indicators for ADHD (which was the reason for seeing him) and he admitted that he didn't know much about ADHD, but he was sure I didn’t have it cause I was able to function well enough to make it to my appointments! Why he didn't tell me he knew nothing about ADHD and couldn't help me on my first visit, annoyed me! He spent the majority of each visit asking only generic questions, and then fell asleep while I answered. He would wake momentarily and just start talking – again, or regain his composure. At each appointment, I had to remind him about things he should have had in his notes, which were terribly inadequate. He wasted my time, caused deterioration of long term physical conditions (which I was being treated for by other doctors) and cost me $. On my last visit I got up, put my coat on, and gathered my things while he slept, and, was opening the door when he woke up! He told me it was rude to walk out of an appointment. I didn’t respond and never went back. I figured he was a temporary hire and would not be there long but, after reading that Dr. Gobeil is still treating patients, I felt that I had to write and share my experience. I never received an apology or refund for his unprofessional behavior and irresponsible treatment. If he has helped anyone I would be surprised and if Dr. Gobiel has competencies, they were not evident to me. I hope this helps others.
