Summary

I have been practicing orthodontics exclusively since 1969, and to this day I feel that orthodontics is one of the most challenging and rewarding professions. Over the years, I have met so many wonderful people; some came to me excited about receiving orthodontic care, while others came feeling anxious about receiving treatment. I enjoy working with each individual to make sure that when their treatment is done, they all leave with a beautiful new smile, and a renewed sense of self-confidence. I have learned a lot during my nearly 40 year career, but the greatest moments for me have been building friendships with my patients, and seeing them smile each time they visit our practice.
Education:
Bachelor of Arts degree – Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois
Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) – Loyola University School of Dentistry, Chicago, Illinois
24-month postgraduate orthodontic training and Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics – Loyola University School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics
Continuing Education
I regularly attend state, regional and national meetings every year, exceeding by far the minimum hours of continuing education that is required by my profession and the State of California. In addition I am a founding member of the Academy for Orthodontic Excellence and have been its manager and program co-chair since 1980. My responsibilities in this position include reviewing the latest scientific advances in orthodontics and coordinating 4 to 5 continuing education meetings every year for our members and guests. This opportunity has allowed me to learn about the very latest diagnostic and treatment protocols that I might utilize in our practice in order to provide the greatest treatment benefits for our patients.
In addition to continuing education, I am deeply involved in the orthodontic community, and much of my volunteer work directly relates to my profession. I have served and continue to serve on the board of directors of several orthodontic associations, and in 2005-2006 was honored to serve as the president of the California Association of Orthodontists. On the national level, I continue to serve as a delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists, House of Delegates. I also maintain yearly memberships with a number of professional associations, including the following:
The American Dental Association
The California Dental Association
The Orange County Dental Association
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO)
The World Federation of Orthodontists
The Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists
The California Association of Orthodontists (CAO)
American College of Dentists
I serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. I was also honored to be elected as a Fellow to the American College of Dentists. Less than 5% of United States dentists are so honored.
Outside of the Practice
I was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Upon completion of my studies in 1971, I served for 27 months as chief of Orthodontic Services in the United States Air Force, Edwards AFB, Ca. In 1974 our family became residents of Corona del Mar, Ca. and a year later, I established my private practice in Irvine, Ca. My lovely wife, Irm, and I were married in 1966 while I was attending dental school. Together, we have three wonderful grown children. Our first daughter, Wendy, is a first grade teacher and lives in Sausalito, Ca. Our son, David, is a family dentist practicing in Costa Mesa, Ca. His wife, Kelly, is part of our practice team and serves as our Financial Coordinator. Our youngest daughter, Susan, is married, lives in Mill Valley, Ca. and runs her own business, ArtStart, an art studio for children. Irm and I have been blessed with six grandchildren, whom we absolutely love and adore.
When I’m not at the practice, I enjoy spending time outdoors, riding my bike, gardening, and traveling. I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to do more sailing, skiing, and golfing. My wife and I are also involved in the community,
