Dr. Ronald Joe Lorig, MD

Ronald J. Lorig, MD, PhD, is Chair, Department of Regional Radiology at Cleveland Clinic's Administrative Center in Beachwood, Ohio. Dr. Lorig came to the Cleveland Clinic in 1982 to complete a residency in diagnostic radiology and subsequently joined the diagnostic radiology staff in the abdominal imaging section in 1986. In 1990, he was named a Bruce Hubbard Stewart Fellow. His career began with a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa. Named a Ford Foundation Fellow at Case Institute of Technology , he moved to Cleveland in 1966 to pursue a master's degree and a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Upon completing his doctorate , Dr. Lorig received a joint appointment from the Case Western Reserve University schools of medicine and engineering. He taught for several years as an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University with a research laboratory …in neurosurgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and then launched the third and final stage of his formal education in 1977, entering medical school at Case Western Reserve University. Certified by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Lorig has been active in the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Ohio State Medical Association, the Radiological Society of North America and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine. In his long association with the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Lorig served as section head and chairman of radiology at Ashtabula County Medical Center, section head and chairman of radiology at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, Ohio and medical director of radiology at Beachwood Family Health Center prior to assuming his current position as Chairman of Regional Radiology as well as section head and chairman of radiology at Euclid Hospital.
