I have been a patient of Dr. Hartman for several years and have always received great care. I recently had two appointments at his office but did not see Dr. Hartman. The first appointment didn’t really require his attention and the second appointment was for an infected tooth/gum which Dr. Weems was called into the room to look at. Dr. Weems looked in my mouth and said “it’s infected” and walked out. Kayla (who is always polite and informative) came in the room and said Dr. Weems would pull it and it would be $50. The infection was so bad that part of my gum was gone, it had pus like liquid oozing from it, and of course the pain was awful. I’m not a dentist but no way was I going to let him pull the tooth without getting an antibiotic and taking it for at least a week so I left the office. Recently I had an appointment to get a crown on that I had actually had the root canal and temporary put on w Dr. Hartman months prior. Dr. Weems put the crown on and took it off at least 8… times. The last two times I said to him that my bite was off. He then had me bite on paper, filed the crown again, and put it back in my mouth. I said again to Dr. Weems that my bite was off. I was told to bite again on paper and then Dr. Weems told the assistant to go ahead and glue it. I was then told by Dr. Weems or the assistant that “this is why they do the mark test” and “you are still numb- it will feel better when the numbness wears off”. I am not sure who actually put the glue on but there was so much glue that three different assistants came in to try to get the excess off and get floss through the crown and the tooth beside it. I again mentioned my bite and nothing was done. Dr. Weems also said he would have an antibiotic called in for the infected tooth. That night after the numbness wore off my bite was still off. The next morning I called Dr. Weems’ Granite City office and left a message stating my bite was not right and I was having a lot of pain in my jaw and a bad headache. By 3pm I still had not received a call back from anyone at the office so I called again. Someone answered and I explained I was at the office the previous day and what the issue was only to be placed on hold. Another employee answered and I went through everything again and was again placed on hold. This continued until a fourth person picked up and asked if I could come in at 10:30am the following day. I explained that I couldn’t miss any work because I didn’t have any time off and couldn’t afford it but the phone recording mentions the office is open till 6pm on Tuesday and Thursday and I could come later in the evening. The woman tells me that “they need to update that because they are no longer open till 6pm”. At this point I’m pretty aggravated and I said that I could leave work at 4:30 or 4:45pm and I was at the office the day before for two hours and mentioned three times that the crown wasn’t right- can’t Dr. Weems stay 15 min over to fix it because he did the work”. I was placed on hold again. Dr Weems gets on the phone and the first thing he says is “Why are you quoting me”? I was a little confused and I asked “What”? He asked me again why I was quoting him saying “that’s why we do the mark test” and “ you’re still numb- it will feel better when the numbness wears off”. Still a little confused I informed him that I didn’t specifically quote him and that isn’t the issue- I explained my pain and discomfort with the crown and I wasn’t sure who said what. Dr. Weems then replies “Well that’s weird you don’t remember “. I am pretty upset at this point so I said that the whole appointment was pretty traumatic considering I had five different set of hands in my mouth and it doesn’t matter who said what- what matters is someone in that facility where I received treatment said it and he was going to correct the problem. Dr. Weems then replies with “you can’t go around quoting people, I’m a person too”. I then mentioned that I work in a law firm only to be cut off mid sentence by Dr. Weems asking if “I’m threatening him”. I said I wasn’t threatening him that I was trying to say that he can’t treat patients this way but he kept on with his rant so I asked to speak with another dentist or office manager and he then said “I am the manager, I own the place”. Feeling completely defeated I hung up the phone in tears. No antibiotic was ever called in and I have called the office three times about the crown. My mouth hurts so bad and I’m extremely uncomfortable. I would never recommend this dentist to anyone and I am in the process of making a complaint to the Department of Professional Regulation and Dental Board. I’ve been putting off leaving this review because I just wanted the crown fixed but it’s been almost two weeks and I haven’t heard from the office or Dr. Weems and I think it’s more important to let everyone know how my appointment went and the follow up or lack of I have received
