Dr. Roopa Sathyaprakash, MD

To save you time I'll summarize that you should STAY AWAY. This office is awful.Their policies are not patient friendly & the staff is uncaring and rude. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because my first visit was fine. It went terribly downhill from there. If you are interested in the details of my experience read on. I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's. When I found out I had thyroid issues I was referred to Dr. Roopa by friends in my neighborhood. My first visit was good. She was friendly. It was my second visit when problems arose. I was under the impression that my 2nd appt was with Roopa, but is was actually with PA Trang. I found this out when I got a text to confirm my appt. I tried to see Roopa mainly because I did not want to see another doc, after seeing several for the many symptoms I was having, & I thought it was odd as a new patient to see the PA. I was told I had no choice & Roopa had put it in her notes for me to see the PA. I was told that PA Trang… would have all of Roopa's notes & she could do all the same things as Roopa except perform an ultrasound. This bothered me too b/c I had a nodule that Roopa said she wanted to keep an eye on. I sat down with the PA & was quickly aware she had not read any of Roopa's notes. I had to go over all my symptoms, medications,& all that had happened in the previous 4 months again. During this time she made statements that contradicted what Roopa had said in the previous appt so there was some back and forth. This seemed to frustrate her & I was genuinely confused on how to go forward. She also told me I could take extra meds if I wanted to. What? This took up most of the appointment & I attempted to tell her the new symptoms & was only able to explain one as she started walking towards the door. Then she just left. I was confused, still talking,& after few moments I went into the hallway to see if she was coming back. She was giving some medication to the nurse & that's when I found out she was done with the appointment. I was taken aback because I was not done talking to her. So, I tried to speak to the nurse & left information about the new symptoms I was having. One was depression, which also caused me to break down in the office due feeling mistreated & uncared for. I felt like a fool & left there defeated with several unanswered questions. Soon after I received a call from Lisa the office/billing manager. She explained it was the office policy for me to see the doctor then the PA consecutively. I explained again that this is not what I wanted especially since the appt with PA Trang was so bad & it was obvious she had not taken the time to have knowledge of my condition and symptoms. I was told this was their policy & there was no exception to be made. I asked again about the additional symptoms I was having, my notes that were left with the nurse, & if she had any information about that. She did not. I ended the call by asking, "Bottom line, could you speak to the doctor & see if she would make an exception?". She responded that it was policy, it could not be changed. I said I would find another endo. I called Roopa's line to leave a msg before doing so. Days later I received a call from a nurse. I said I would like the doctor to call me. She said OK & hung up. More days go by, I receive another call from another nurse. I asked to speak with the doctor. She said Roopa doesn't call patients. She can only give her a msg. I had many questions, plus a new symptom of thyroid pain, I asked again if she'd ask Dr. Roopa personally to make an exception to the policy. I also knew there were other patients that had this arrangement from my referral. She was instantly rude & loud. I said I'm only giving you facts & there's no reason to be rude to me. Finally, I get another call from Lisa telling me they will not be asking the doctor any questions, they don't do that either, & the PA would get my message. I said this wouldn't work b/c they contradict each other. Lisa said the policy is set by the doctors & that's it. I gave up.

Dr. Roopa has to be on of the worst doctors I have been to in my 47 years. I have Hypothyroidism and left my last doctor who did not take insurance and was getting to expensive. I told dr. Roopa the doses I was on which is 120mg of Armour thyroid and 40mcg of cytomel. She said I was on to high of a dose and she wanted to pull me off of all meds. I’m also on testosterone therapy and have been for 8 years now. She wanted to pull me off of it to and start over on all meds. I have several friends that are on even higher doses than what I’m on. It took me 2 years to get to the dose of thyroid meds I’m on and I finally feel decent. Dr. Roopa to me is a doctor that truly doesn’t care about her patients. If you have a thyroid problem I would stay far away from Dr Roopa.

Dr. Roopa is a great doctor, the staff at her office is horrible. Starting at the front desk, her nurse and checkout - either they hate their jobs or are just not the right people for their positions. Get some new staff that are pleasant or you will loose your patients. Let me repeat - Dr. Roopa is a great doctor, it is her unpleasant staff that is the issue!

It's very surprising being a specialist she hardly spends anytime time to hear what the patient says and suggest proper diagnosis. She always goes by what she 'believes'. She repeatedly denied what I think was the problem. One of the problems I saw here for was chronic debilitating fatigue. She didn't even care to recommend tests beyond blood sugar & HbA1c despite the fact that I was going thru several emergency visits. Her knowledge also sucks - finally when I requested to check my Adrenal functioning thru Cosyntropin Stimulation test she asked me back how in the world anybody could stimulate Cosyntropin! That's when I figured it's time to move on. And later, to my surprise, I got diagnosed elsewhere, so many endocrinologically critical levels have gone way out of balance.

Dr. Roopa is quiet and seemed like a nice woman. I do not feel like she takes the time to get to know her patients. My average appointment time spent with her was maybe five minutes. I feel like she recommends what she believes is best for you without considering what you desire as well. She did not explain the benefits/risks of the recommended procedures either. I went to a new doctor after seeing Dr. Roopa for several years in the hopes to find someone who would talk to me and discuss things with me, instead of leaving me with questions.

When my test numbers didn't add up, Dr. Roopa Sathyaprakash was the only one of my doctors that was concerned. Her dedication to finding the problem was responsible for the early detection of cancer in my lymph nodes, and subsequent surgery and treatment. She is a kind, considerate, caring, and thorough doctor. I have been with her for five years and will not go to anyone else.

Very nice and caring with my elderlygrandmother. Extremely patient and willing to explain things.
