This doctor made a completely off base diagnosis. A child was presented to this doctor with a rash on her buttocks that were a pink/red color and blotchy over a video chat. This child has a long history of skin conditions such as eczema. Someone in our house had confirmed antibodies for COVID. This rash resembled the rash that shows up in small children with COVID. We looked for help in this doctor and she started asking if the rash continued in the the crack of the butt, no. She asked if there was any thought of child abuse, again, no. The child has been at home with only 3 other close family members. She then stated she would prescribe a steroid and antibiotic, great. She called on a Saturday on an unknown number, was not answer. She then called on Monday and asked how the child was. Confirmed the child is doing much better, buttock is now just slightly discolored and is dry. Similar to chafing or dry winter skin and causing no pain. Later that day child services was knocking on the… door to investigate a burn on the child’s bum, of course identification was confirmed. The child then had to get her butt photographed. This doctor made allegations that held no ground. To make an assumption off this very short video call and then not ask to see how the bum had healing by money is the most outrageous thing. I work in health care, of course I want to know my patients safety is first. Her assessment was a joke. I’m thankful that this rash has cleared up but based on what she presumed the diagnosis was could have changed the whole course of healing. What if it had been COVID? What if this treatment didn’t work? I understand doing your do diligence, I really do. Patient safety is number one, but how could you put a family through this without having any hard evidence? Without properly assessing? Taking the time to see the child’s healing. We would have happily put masks on and followed a special procedure to get a proper in person assessment. Looking at a patients chart before entering a room/video chat is essential.
