Dr. Maikis is a wonderful and caring OBGY. I started going to her some 12-15 years ago and she always stayed on top of things. I began experiencing issues with fibroids and Dr. Maikis thoroughly covered all of my options so that I could make a very informed decision on the course of action regarding my health. I opted for the hysterectomy and ladies... I have never looked back. This was one of the best decisions that I could have ever made for myself. I have not experienced any complications since the surgery in 2010. Again, this was the best thing for me. In the meantime, Ladies make sure you have your annual exams and if you need a good OBGY, make an appointment to see Dr. Maikis. She listens very well and she is concerned about your overall health.

After 4+ years of infertility, seeing multiple doctors, over twenty medicated cycles, and one miscarriage, my husband and I decided to reach out to Dr. Maikis in regards to attempting IUI after a friend referred us. I desperately did not want to visit a large fertility clinic and was hoping to find a doctor who understood women’s full reproductive health. Our first visit was incredibly reassuring, as Dr. Maikis not only gave us time in her office to hear our needs but she also took me for a trans ahi all ultrasound. I have had appointments like these before, with doctor who had even preformed exploratory surgery, and never had preformed an ultrasound! So, her thorough approach was not lost on me. In fact, she was able to identify a potential problem in my uterus at that appointment l, that fortunately had worked itself out in my next period. Dr. Maikis gave me her fair, honest opinion on the likelihood of my getting pregnant through IUI considering my history and she sent my husband… and I off to consider our options. We ultimately decided to do IUI and Dr. Maikis was positive and supportive. Her office was quick and gracious to fit me multiple times on their schedule based around the tricky timing of my cycle and I never once had to sit around waiting in the office for anyone. Most appointments I was walking in the office door and out in less than an hour. Which made it easy to duck in and out of work! Our first cycle, I had one follicle ready to go and while I was a little discouraged because I was hoping for several to increase my chances of success, Dr. Maikis would remind me “it only take one.” And it did. It only took that one sweet follicle to become our baby! To our utter shock, complete disbelief, and total joy, we became pregnant in our first round of IUI. We had prepared ourselves that we would give it a few shots- fully prepared to be disappointed in the end. But Dr. Maikis was willing to help us try and make this happen and do her very best to give us a fair chance at realizing a dream long deferred. Dr. Maikis is black and white in her delivery. She doesn’t pull punches and doesn’t say things just to say them. You can take her at her word. But she is also kind and gentle and celebrated our good news with a truly loving and sincere phone call. It was great to know that she specializes in high risk pregnancies and c-sections and would be the most excellent and trusted resource if I found myself in that circumstance. My husband and I most certainly my plan to get in Dr. Maikis’ schedule when we are ready to try for our next child and feel SO very very blessed to have found such a gifted and caring doctor. I would be amiss if I didn’t also mention Dr. Maikis’ nurse, Liz, who was just simply so easy to be comfortable around. She is incredibly hard working and compassionate. She talked with me for about 15 or 20 minutes one of the days my period was late before I could test and was really struggling with the anxiety of not knowing. I would a hundred times over recommend this office and Dr. Maikis to anyone. And for the woman out there who isn’t ready to have the IVF conversation and wants to explore another option first- take heart and try IUI. I m ow my story is not everyone’s, but you just never know. And as Dr. Maikis told me, “it only takes one.”

Was told when I was only 11 weeks pregnant that I needed a c section and that I would never be able to have a baby vaginally because of the way my pelvic bones are. Switched doctors and had a beautiful healthy baby vaginally. Was told by several nurses that she loves c sections only. BEWARE and trust your gut.

I have spent YEARS trying to find a doctor. I thought dr Maikis was such a blessing bc she diagnosed my adenomyosis and did surgery to help me feel better. However, unfortunately my issues have continued and pain is a major problem for me. she tells me to handle this with aleve and benadryl and that the only way to cure it is a hysterectomy which i’m only 28 and she doesn’t recommend doing yet. so I asked her i’m basically just gonna have this pain right? she tells me yes. fast forward to right now- i’ve had a week of excruciating pain. I didnt call at first because I knew she would say aleve and benadryl. so i finally went to the er just to get some relief. today I called her office and asked for an apt asap bc this pain is bad and I requested her to do a transvaginal ultrasound because the er did not they did a pelvic on top of my stomach which doesn’t show adenomyosis in my experience. I was told that since she was behind today (totally understandable) that i could not be seen… because I was fine and it was not life threatening it could wait until monday. I understand being behind and busy but don’t ever tell someone in pain they are fine. you don’t understand what it feels like and being insensitive to someone who’s been through 5+ doctors just to get a diagnosis is not right. all i’m asking is for someone to help with my pain and manage it so i don’t have to spend the day in bed every other day. thanks to today’s response i’m moving on to attempt pain management with yet another new doctor.

I was diagnosed with having a large uterine fibroid, 22.5 cm long. I Googled fibroid removal Nashville and Dr. Maikis popped up. I immediately scheduled with her, she did her own assessment on me to verify the problem. She gave me several options and I chose to do the surgery. Dr. Maikis kept me very informed throughout the whole process. During my surgery, she discovered that I had endometriosis really bad......really, really bad. Her and her staff were able to remove the fibroid and endometriosis and I was able to keep my uterus. She is brilliant, confident, and very articulate. If you are facing a more complex issue, she is definitely worth consulting.

i’ve had pain for years. YEARS. finally a doctor in 2014 listened to me a little bit and did a lap and found endometriosis and a bleeding cyst and cut it all out. afterwards said it wasn’t active and when my pain returned sent me to a urologist instead and dismissed me thinking it was endo again. fast forward four years later, a doc who sent me to pelvic physical therapy and gave me every reason why it wasn’t endo pain and sent me to gi doc who diagnosed ibs and took out my gallbladder. here we are 2018 i’m still going to the er with never answers all my scans and stuff done. primary doctor does every blood test all fine. again not listening that it’s endometrioisis. ask to be referred to someone that specializes in it. she refers me to a NP who is my age and been practicing for 2 years. I immediatel cancelled that apt and joined an endo facebook group where two people recommended dr. maikis. my apt was kind of far out but I called this week in so much pain she saw me that morning! she… took me in her office and LISTENED. despite all the medical results I brought her she wanted to do her own ultra sound. she immediately found endometrioisis and has scheduled surgery to remove it. THIS is a doctor that listens ladies and gents. and as far as bedside manner she does not walk into the room without saying “hey sweet girl.” and it wasnt just me i heard her say it to all her patients in the hall. she has given me hope after years of people telling me there’s nothing wrong. so yes HIGHLY recommend.

The entire group Dr maikis participates in does not take Medicare. Though this is certainly their prerogative, I find it quite unethical since 30% plus of the population are over 65 and female.( acl.gov) So most Ob Gyns eliminate OB as soon as they can in their career and now they have eliminated Medicare patients. By the very act of dropping these patients from their patient pool they have already Done Harm to the health of Nashville and surrounding area. Not to mention left the sickest patients and high risk patients to their colleagues. I am disipointed in the group as well as Tristar allowing this.
