Dr. Rowland Gibson Hazard, MD

I just left my first and last appt. with Dr. Rowland Hazard. He is a doctor at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH and is an orthopaedic/spine specialist. I had waited 6 months on a wait list for this appointment. I suffer chronic back pain and have my entire life. He seemed pleasant upon meeting. He checked my reflexes, had me arch my back backwards and bend down and touch my toes. He then had me walk to the door and back. Then he showed me ONE of my xray images. He showed me where I have "disc space narrowing." I asked him if a TENS unit may be something that would help, as I have a friend who fractured her back and she says it has done her wonders. His response was "We do not write prescriptions for TENS units because they do not work for most people." Oh okay. Then i'm thinking....Well it works for someone I know and I'd love to at least give it a try. I did not ask, nor was there any mention of medication whatsoever. He left the room to set me up with PT. Then the… nurse came in and asked "Is he done or will he be back in?" I replied "He left to set something up with PT but I would hope he is coming back because I have a few questions for him." She left to tell the Doctor that his patient, me, had questions for him. She came back into the room and said "I explained to him that you had a couple questions but he feels like he covered everything." I said "Are you kidding me? Why would he treat me like this? I have been waiting for 6 months to get in here and he spent all of 4 minutes with me checking my reflexes?!" She AGREED "I am so sorry, he is usually not like this, I am not sure why he is acting this way." I thanked her very much, let the nurse know that she was very sweet but that I wanted NOTHING to do with this "Spine Center" and that I would never be back. This man absolutely DISGUSTS me. He refused to come back into the room to allow me to ask him even one question. I left with zero understanding of what my spine issues actually are. I left without being able to ask one single question. And all of this, I was on a wait list for 6 months for. I have literally NEVER been treated this poorly by any Doctor, EVER. I am appauled and thoroughly disgusted. This man should NOT be seeing patients. Maybe he is burnt out or had a bad day, but regardless of any outside influences, that does not give him the right to blatantly disrespect and shun away a patient who is there seeking help. I would advise any and all patients to find a different doctor, or use a different hospital such as APD if you are local here. By the way, on my way out of the hospital I stopped at the information desk. Still in tears, I asked the woman where I would go to file a complaint. The first thing she said to me? "Did you just come from the Spine Center?" I said "Yes, this must happen a lot, huh?" She nodded her head and instructed me where to go within the hospital and also gave me the telephone number to phone in the complaint. My entire family including myself are medical professionals. I have never, ever been treated with such rudeness, such disrespect, such lack of empathy or compassion. I am utterly disgusted and I would warn ANYONE considering seeing this doctor, please RUN in the opposite direction!!!!! He is a MONSTER!!!!
