Dr. Roy Alan Kaplan, MD

Dr. Kaplan is the real deal. He knows autoimmune disorders and helped me with my RPS as well as arthritis issues. He's an old fashioned doctor, which are the best kind! I highly recommend him.

Dr. Roy Kaolan is EXCEPTIONAL! I lived out of state and was seeing multiple doctors treating multiple symptoms and for six years could not get an accurate diagnosis. I was miserable and frustrated . Marriage brought me to Carlsbad from the Midwest and my symptoms escalated. I was referred to the neurologist from my primary care physician. The neurologist ruled out MS and referred me to Dr. Roy Kaplan. I had spent almost 20 years in pharmaceutical/biotech sales and had to leave my job due to my health. I say this because I know all to well how doctors have a very limited timed with patients. I was shocked that Dr, Kaplan spent more than 2 .5 hours with me on my initial visit reviewing my records from all of my phycians and asking lengthy questions. At the end he said would you like me to tell you what you have? My mind was blown, for 6 years I was searching for the answers! Dr. Kaplan put all of the pieces of my puzzle together and diagnosed me with 3 autoimmune diseases. I have been… under his care for almost 7 years now. My disclaimer on the 4 STARS on wait time, there is a wait, he's worth the wait and when it's your turn you will feel like you're his only patient. 4 STARS on ease of appointment, you have to be referred to him by another physician.

Several years ago I began having excruciating pain in my neck, back, legs and arms. I assumed that I had just aggravated my back and that a trip to the chiropractor would resolve my problem....not so. This was just the beginning! For more than 1 1/2 years my symptoms progressed and I had lost the ability the use my left hand, to participate in "normal" daily activities and began wondering if anyone could help me. I had seen 10+ doctors, all of whom assumed I had a very low pain tolerance and that "nothing seemed to be wrong". There isn't anything I can think of worse than questioning your own sanity and having those you loved question it as well. I FINALLY was referred to Dr. Kaplan and this was the BEST moment of my life. He entered the exam room with a smile, shook my hand, asked me how I was feeling and told me that "we" would figure out what was going on. I cried tears of joy and relief, I had become hopeless and Dr.Kaplan gave me hope when it was most needed! He spent two hours… with me that day, going over my full medical history and covering each and every symptom I had. Soon there after I returned to his office and when he entered the exam room he said something I'll never forget " you're one tough girl and I can ASSURE YOU, you are not crazy. You have an auto immune disease, one in which it is very difficult to diagnose. I believe that Dr. KAPLAN is by far the most kind, caring and intelligent physician I have ever seen! He truly saves my life!

Dr Kaplan is the best dr! He has been able To figure out strange symptoms and help me. He put me on a medication that has been helping me a great deal with my arthritis. I would not want to see another doctor for these health conditions. He is the best hands down.

His dog was the only thing I like about this doctor. His diagnosis was very wrong and I will never recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Kaplan is the "best of the best" doctors/Rheumatologist! You won't find a more knowledgeable, thorough, and caring doctor. He has the best, professional Staff, an excellent PA. I would travel any distance to keep him as my doctor.

Excellent doctor, aggressive, which is needed in treating rheumatoid arthritis.

I have seen Dr. Kaplan since 1993. I could not consider seeing another rheumatologist so long as Dr. Kaplan remains in practice. He is simply the smartest doctor I have known, and I know lots and lots of doctors. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine, and is absolutely tops in his field. His patients are incredibly loyal to him. He has a full staff, including nurses who provide infusions of medicine that are administered by I.V lines. He also has in-house access to an MRI machine that is used to image hands and feet, along with a bone density test machine. Many of his patients with arthritis also have low bone density and he provides state of the art care to increase bone health. Established patients can get in to see him readily, including visits for injections to treat bad flare-ups of arthritic joints or focal points of muscle spasm and tenderness that can be obtained often with only 24 hours notice or so. He is supported by a Physician Assistant in addition to his… nursing and technical staff. The PA is also very good and quite experienced. Established patients often alternate between visits with Dr. Kaplan and his PA, which makes it possible for him to provide care to many patients and give appropriate time to each patient who sees him. Dr. Kaplan is intimately familiar with the research upon which all the treatments offered are based, and gives his patients as thorough an explanation of their condition and treatment options as they can possibly desire. Dr. Kaplan is among the most friendly, caring and compassionate doctors I have ever met. I wish that every doctor could be so accomplished and supportive of their patients.
