Dr. Ruben Cohen, MD

Avoid this gentleman at all cost. The only thing he can do with teeth is lie through them.

I had to reschedule my appointment three times because he was "out at the hospital for surgery." I understand dentists and doctors have busy schedules, but this was ridiculous. They also have the wrong listing on google maps, which often sends you to the wrong office several blocks south. When I finally made it to my appointment, Dr. Cohen himself was very abrupt and frankly rude. As someone who researches healthcare spending and utilization in the US professionally, I found his office to be quintessentially problematic. It has many amenities and extra services that are cool but frankly unnecessary (video games in the lobby, very aesthetically pleasing, etc.) but then he fundamentally does not provide good care. Why would I want to value one over the other? He overcharges by almost a factor of two compared to second opinions, and attempted to sell me extra procedures that were likely unnecessary. He wanted to take out other teeth that likely didn't need to be removed and… might lead to infection/paralysis! The other two dental surgeons I saw after Dr. Cohen disagreed with his assessment and worked better and more closely with my insurance. He made sure to say that I should come back and get a teeth cleaning to spend my insurance account though. This was particularly egregious. This attitude is exactly what is causing rising insurance premiums in the US: unnecessary treatments and overspending/overcharging for unnecessary amenities! Dr. Cohen is part of the problem, not part of the solution. If you want to spend lots of $$$ to get A+ care, Dr. Cohen's office is probably right for you. If you want a personable dentist who will work with you to get the best care for the right price, look elsewhere.

I brought my teenage son in to Dr. Cohen to have 2 wisdom teeth extracted. I was told that the cost would be $3200 plus a $250 consultation fee. While this is double what I would pay in Florida, I decided to go ahead since my insurance would cover $2,000 of this cost. On the morning of my son's surgery, with my son already at the office, I was told that the $3200 would be my OUT OF POCKET COST and that they intend to collect the $2000 insurance coverage. Also, they would need to charge $400 for x-rays. That means that Dr. Cohen charges $5600 plus $250 consultation - ALMOST $6000 TO REMOVE 2 WISDOM TEETH!!! I cancelled the surgery. I spoke to the insurance person at my husband's office who said she never heard of anything remotely close to such charges. Go to Dr. Cohen if you have money to burn for what is simple, quick and routine oral surgery.

I did not enjoy a Dr visit as much for a long time! The waiting areas and office spaces are clean and pleasant; which we are totally not used to in Manhattan. Staff is very helpul and efficient. And Dr Cohen is so nice and so professionnal. I had to have a 2 hours surgery which could have been scary. But the whole process was seamless and handled perfectly from beginning to end. Would highly recommend...great experience!!

Money is their first priority. Xrays were not necessary and I had to pay by credit card since insurance would not cover. Cancelled surgery the day before because he was not comfortable doing it. Received a bill anyway. Shame on you!

Fantastic doctor!!!!!

I didn't follow through with my appointment strictly based on how terrible the doctor's manners were, as well as the staff's. I spent less than 10 minutes with the doctor, when he insisted I take an over-priced x-ray that insurance doesn't cover. After that I got a quote that was atrocious for some simple teeth extractions. After declining to go back, I got told there's a $100 cancellation fee, and then weeks later a surprise bill for money that I was told was covered by my insurance. There was a misunderstanding on the staff's part so, weeks later, I got a bill to cover the remainder. So the staff misled me to think the consultation would cost x-amount, and weeks later it's a matter of "oh we misunderstood the insurance plan. Please pay us much more money". Dr. Cohen doesn't seem to care at all about the patient. On arrival they take your credit card info, and really at every opportunity they will try to get as much money out of you as possible. I just went in for a 5 minute… consultation, got forced to take an expensive X-Ray without any real explanation other than a "you really have to", and without following up, I was expected to pay $560 out of pocket for all of this. For ONLY a consultation with an xray. My entire procedure with another dentist was cheaper than this, and I didn't even get my teeth removed here. Although I didn't get my teeth removed here, would anyone want to put their health into the hands of people who clearly prioritize your wallet over your wellbeing.

Dental Implants with Oral Surgeon, Ruben Cohen, DDS was great. He was gentle, smart, funny. Offered pain free dentistry which was great. Good price - gave me a break. Happy I finally got the procedure performed. Whole staff was helpful and friendly. Very clean contemporary office. Highly recommend Dr. Ruben Cohen.
