Dr. Rudolph Evonich IIi, MD

A couple years ago, I had some very severe problems with afib to the point of being hospitalized in icu. It took a while to see Dr Evanich, but well worth the wait. He scheduled me for an ablation, which was done. I later had a TIA which was a warning of a potential blood clot or worse a life altering stroke. He gave me my options and we decided I would be a perfect candidate for the Watchman procedure. We scheduled the surgery and have been doing very well since. Dr. Rudy is right on with his diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare. He is very intelligent, caring, easy to talk to, respectful, a great bedside manner, and just a wonderful human being. We were able to call him anytime and actually get him on the phone. I and my husband highly recommend him and the Watchman procedure for anyone who qualifies for this type of surgery. He is an excellent physician with a great personality. His staff is also very kind and helpful. My only concern is the lack of promptness with… the office staff in returning calls with needed information. Also, the length of time it takes to see Dr Rudy. I realize he is very busy and is helping many patients all over the UP, but there's a need for a shorter wait time. Perhaps another physician with the same training is needed in his group. Overall, no major complaints and absolutely none against Dr Rudy. Very happy!

Introduces himself as Rudy which immediately makes a positive impression. A very bright, articulate guy who will draw a picture to explain your cardio issue. He has an excellent handout to explain almost everything you need to know about Afib.

At one time I was diagnosed with Wolfe/Parkinson/White syndrome... basically an electrical short circuit in my heart, which could among other things cause me to die suddenly. The first time I went to see Dr. Evonich, I declined to have the problem fixed, because I did not have very good health insurance at the time. He said that was a reasonable choice, and mentioned there are risks to the corrective procedure as well as to doing nothing. At that point I left with a very good impression of Dr. Evonich. A few years later I got better insurance, and was married with a couple kids. Dropping dead suddenly began to look less attractive. So I told my primary doctor that I might as well fix the problem while I was still young and strong. She did an EKG and sent me to see Dr. Evonich again. He did an EKG and mentioned the WPW syndrome was "much less pronounced" but went ahead and set up a surgery date. I arrived one day early and had a third EKG. The next day I had what I think they call an… "ablation" where they stick instruments up your blood vessels from the groin area and attempt to burn out the extra electrical pathway. After I woke up, Dr. Evanich dances into my room and says "Congratulations! I pronounce you cured! I could not find any problem!" Visiting my primary doctor later on, I asked her what she saw on the first EKG, a month or more before my operation. She said it showed NO EVIDENCE of WPW syndrome. It became my understanding that NONE of 3 or 4 EKG's I had, including while undergoing the procedure, ever showed any evidence of the WPW syndrome that I'd had a few years earlier. It had resolved itself. NOBODY EVER TOLD ME THAT! My primary doctor defended Dr. Evonich, but I will never forgive him (or her) for putting me at risk for no good reason in this way. Obviously, I should have been told what my actual condition was, and had the opportunity of making my own decision what to do about it, based on accurate knowledge. I think, if I had been informed the problem was gone, I certainly would not risk undergoing surgery but would instead have tried to monitor at reasonable intervals to see if the problem returned. In my opinion Dr. Evonich intentionally withheld vital information from me, and intentionally misled me into undergoing an unnecessary surgery which unnecessarily risked my life. He may well be technically skilled, but I regard him as totally unethical.

This Dr. cares and he knows is stuff... I recommend him.

Explained the causes and effects of my problem better than anyone else had before. He methodically diagnosed and fixed my problem beyond my expections.I recommend him highly.

Dr.Rudy was very nice his nurse was excellent the proulbem was it took 6 weeks to get this apointment then tests were ordered I had to call after not hearing from them in two weeks to schedule these. They were scheduled for next week then cancelled till end of week and now still waiting to hear results I called there recieved call back thatvit would be another week till they were read. So this it what ten weeks now. I realize I'm not there only patient but cone on a phone call would be nice. Thought I was to get a call on Friday that didn't happen either so still waiting..
