Rukan Huq, MD

Dr. Rukan Huq is a board-certified psychiatrist who provides compassionate, patient-centered care to adolescents and adults ages 16–65 in a collaborative environment. She works with adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, life transitions, and concerns related to women’s mental health and life transitions.

Her approach to care is warm, collaborative, and individualized. Dr. Huq integrates medication management with psychotherapy-informed care, drawing from a variety of therapeutic perspectives to help patients work toward meaningful and sustainable improvements in their mental health. She strives to create a safe and supportive space where patients feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their care.

Dr. Huq earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and completed medical school at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. She went on to complete …her psychiatry residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

During residency, Dr. Huq was actively involved in medical student education through the Student Teaching Clinic, where she supervised and mentored medical students with hands-on teaching. She also served as a Neuroscience Curriculum Facilitator, leading educational sessions from the National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative for psychiatry residents across all years of training. In addition, Dr. Huq participated in clinical research through the Treatment Research Center at Rush University Medical Center as a sub-investigator on studies investigating novel treatments for treatment-resistant depression, including therapies involving psilocybin and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS).

Dr. Huq also has a special interest in supporting immigrants and individuals navigating cultural or cross-cultural experiences. She is committed to culturally sensitive care and enjoys working with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
