Dr. Ruwani Dilrukshi Gunawardane, MD

Overbooked practice. Expect a hour or two wait time, a neurologist who doesn’t listen to or try to hear what the patient is saying. Expect lots of testing and treatment recommendations with no explanation given even when requested. These appointments are difficult enough without a frenetic, disorganized, and often rude doctor who seems to be relying on assistants and techs to keep the practice together. She repeatedly asks and answers her own questions, interrupts, and ignores patient responses. Finding a neurologist without many months wait for appointments is tough, but I’d rather deal with the wait time.

Unorganized, unprofessional office staff that have poor communications ability, no professionalism and compassion towards patients. My first visit a NEW patient and their family exited from an appointment screaming that they will NEVER COME BACK!" My appointment time as 2 pm, I arrived at 1:45 pm. I wasn't called back to be seen until 3:30. My entire appointment was over 2 hours. MEDICAL ERRORS. A medical assistant/Scribe named Anik Saha, entered the exam room with this statement..."So you have MS." As though I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy (MS). I was MORTIFIED because I do not have MS, nor been diagnosed with it!!!!!! I proceeded to tell him I do not have MS and he had the audacity to debate me, saying "you don't know you have MS?" FINALLY, he looked at the computer screen and recognized that I am not the patient that has MS that was supposed to be placed in the exam room I was in. This incident was EGREGIOUS, HORRIFIC and as I recount it, I find it UNBELIEVABLE and… it has left me traumatized. However, Dr. G tried her best to pacify the incident by telling me this person is very bright and completed a 4 year medical program in 3 years and was highly recommended. She said that today was his first day on the job. My response was, "While he might be book smart, what he just did by not following protocol and his engagement with me afterward, and lack of a sincere apology is a liability to her practice. She said, she will "give him a strong reprimand but later said, she may make his first day his last day." Today, May 14th, I had a 9:30 am appointment her office staff messed up the time and had it down for 2:00 pm. My appointment date and time is on a printed sheet with other appointments but the appointment today that they messed up was handwritten by the appointment scheduler. I arrived at 9 am for my 9:30 am appointment. The office staff were rude and in fact lied in my face that they told me the appointment was changed. They casually asked if I could come back at 2pm. I said NO, I am not returning and cancel any other appointments you have for me! Mind you, before this happened I overheard another patient upset because they messed up her appointment too. Needless to say, while Dr. G has good credentials as a Neurologist, the office staff that represents her really is a discredit to her entire practice. They are unprofessional, have attitudes and lie. Furthermore, the medical assistant that made the egregious mistake of telling me I am an MS patient and arguing with me is still employed with her practice. I saw him this morning. This alone diminished my confidence that Dr. G. understands the gravity of the situation that happened nor a person of her word or a physician I can trust with my medical care. Dr. G is notorious for making too many appointments and the standard for this practice appears to be longggggggggggggg patient waits and inadequate treatment by her staff. I now have to start over again to find a competent Neurologists office with a professional staff. The degree of mishandling and errors that exist with this practice is not worth the energy, time nor risk for any patient.

Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane is the most amazing physician I have ever known. She has a wonderful approach to medicine which means she never treats me just as a body part or single ailment, but as a whole person. This allows her to address varied neurological issues all at once, in turn allowing me to stabilize or recover quicker where possible. In my case she continues batting at 100%. She is my doctor, teacher, and advisor whom I trust completely. I thank her every day for the improved quality of daily life she has helped me obtain.

Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane is definitely one of the most knowledgable, dedicated, and caring physicians I have ever known. She has taken care of me for over a decade and a half and I am so very grateful to have her as my doctor. She diligently works closely with me in an effort to help me maintain my mobility and balance as my physical and mental neurological conditions continue to change. She's always ensuring that I am prescribed the most up-to-date medications to manage my varied symptoms. In addition, she stays on top of all newly approved medical research treatments that may benefit me and always takes the time to discusses potential benefits and/or limitations. I thank her, trust and respect her. She is an amazing physician who proves time and time again that she is devoted to her patients. On any rating scale she is a 10+, A++, 5 Star, Excellent!

Excellent care and service was given by Dr. Gunawardane. She took great interest in my case. I know I wasn't just subject to bill. Dr. G, as she lets us call her took personal interest in my ailments and lifestyle. I felt like I was truly taken care of and understood. _ John Hunt

I'm an MD by training and I have seen multiple neurologists throughout the years for migraines. Dr. Ruwani was fantastic during the consult, concise, polite and knowledgeable. She recommended a completely new treatment regimen and my migraines are basically gone.

My husband has been a patient of "Dr. G" for four years and has been very stable thanks to her care and concern. She sees him regularly to check on his meds and behaviors and her diagnosis is always accurate. She uses all the tools and resources possible to keep him stable. Her office staff is organized and efficient, kind and caring. We always get appointments that are convenient with little wait time. When it is our turn to see her, she always asks if there is anything else we need to ask her or talk about regarding his multiple issues. She is brilliant! We absolutely adore her.
