As a registered nurse, I'm slightly concerned over the prescription my husband was prescribed for his pharyngitis diagnosis. Granted, I do not have the extra years of schooling that Dr. Gerecht has, but I felt the need to voice my concern. After sitting in the emergency room for 3 hours, we were finally prescribed medications to treat his infection. The following medicines were prescribed as follows: Clyndamycin 300 mg, Ibuprofen 800 mg, Tramadol 50 mg, and Acetominophen 500 mg. What I am concerned about is the mixture of these. Tramadol is an opiate, whether it is prescribed or not. When we approached the pharmacy counter, the pharmacist questioned the mixture, but waved it off assuming that the doctor knew best. Clyndamycin is an anti bacterial prescription that is very commonly used with no concern. Tramadol is a STRONG pain reliever that is commonly used for post surgery pain relief and is proven to be an addictive prescription commonly abused in the United States & Canada. Out of… every 100 patients, 53 are prescribed an opiate of some sort. This leads to the pressing issue of our countries opiate epidemic. I just want to alert Dr. Gerecht of my concern. Thank you.
