Dr. Helmick is a dual-fellowship trained surgeon specializing in abdominal transplant surgery and critical transplant care. His clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of end-stage organ diseases as well as the specialized intensive care management of high-acuity patients before and after transplantation.Driven by a patient care philosophy that bridges surgical excellence with evidence-based critical care, I care for patients from the point of acute organ failure through long-term recovery. Guided by the principle that, "the needs of the patient come first," my research and clinical interests focus on improving long-term outcomes for critically ill transplant recipients. Recognizing that successful transplantation and ICU care require an exceptional collective effort, I prioritize collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring that trust, clarity, and compassion guide all facets of patient care.
