Dr. Ryan Hynes Hoopes

I was sent to BMC by ambulance for severe bradycardia which has been a medical mystery for the past few months putting me into crisis, leaving me critically ill. I felt like no one was listening except for Dr.Hoopes, my nurses and social work!!! Your efforts to listen and actually hear what I had to say is what will separate you from the rest, and will make you a GREAT TOP ATTENDING OR DIRECTOR. I can’t thank you enough for your hospitality, if it wasn’t for you I think I would have really lost hope during my stay. Please don’t ever change that and I could tell when I did explain things I deal with that you didn’t know about, you were using as an opportunity to learn (like checking your neck for hyper-mobility and believing in me when I asked for an MRI of my spine, I would have never checked my thoracic.). Keep learning, listening and stay curious soon you’ll be the one looking for zebras not horses when you hear hooves in an undiagnosed, chronically ill patient. You might be the one… to change our future of health care! (The author of “rapid interpretation of EKGs”- Dale Dublin was a plastic surgeon, maybe even a mad scientist) don’t ever limit yourself to emergency, you are something special patients like me need.

I had an inpatient stay for critical illnesss/chronic disease no one can figure out. I’ve always had to advocate heavily to get answers and I did at BMC as well. But Dr.Hoopes made me feel heard even through the rest of the team made me think it was all mental. It was one of the hardest 3 days I’ve been through but Dr.Hoopes came and listened to what I had to say, even adding on a test I asked about that came back with some results I needed to know.
