Dr. Ryan Thomas Scruggs, MD

Wow, what a positive experience with my eyelid surgery and post surgical visits. The result of the surgery opened up a whole new world in my peripheral vision. And I am told that I look 10 years younger! I couldn't have been more pleased with my results.

Dr. Scruggs did my DCR (Eye Duct Obstruction) surgery in December 2022. From the initial appt. to the surgery procedure Dr. Scruggs has been outstanding in describing the procedure in detail and explaining any and all questions I had. He would always inquire if I had any more questions. He is unconditionally a great doctor. Now after four months from the procedure the weeping of the eye is 100% dry and has been post surgical date. Also Dr. Scruggs assistant and entire team members were above reproach in each of their services. I am very pleased with my experience having this surgery and consider “Central Florida Eye Specialists” truly specialists in their field.

The moment I entered the office I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff. I had eye surgery and Dr Ryan Scruggs saw me before surgery reassuring me that all will be well and after surgery. His bedside manners are incredible - he showed great care and interest in me as if he was taking care of his own father. On my return visit, I saw his wife, Dr. Dawn Scruggs. She was just as friendly, caring and patient as her husband. I had two follow up visits with her; she treated me the same way as my first visit with her. I HIGHLY recommend Drs. Ryan and Dawn Scruggs. Not only are they compassionate physicians but they treated me like family.

I am sorry the person who was and is extremely dissatisfied both with Dr. Scruggs and with the results of the surgery he did had the experience/s the patient described. I was his patient for 8 years, between 2010 and 2018, during which time he performed several surgeries on both of my stretched out eyelids. I found him to be very professional and willing to take the time to fully describe what the surgeries would involve and to answer all my questions. I found the office staff in each of the four offices I was in over the years to be efficient and pleasant and the nurses in the surgery center to be caring and responsive to my needs both as they prepped me for the surgery I was about to have and to the care I needed post surgery. So impressed was I with overall treatment I received and the results of the surgeries that now, several years later, I have arranged to travel from Chattanooga to the Orlando area to get Dr. Scruggs' opinion as to whether my eyelids have once again become… stretched out. That may lead to my trying to determine how to arrange to have him perform surgery, if it is decided that surgery is needed.

Dr. Scruggs did ptosis repair and did not do blepharoplasty at the same time which is normally done when the ptosis is severe as mine was and excess skin and fat must be removed. Now my eyelids are all crumpled and folded in numerous folds with hard bumps at each of the 4 corners and he agreed to fix with a blepharoplasty that required me to pay myself, scheduled the surgery for 10 days from second office follow up, took the payment by credit card and called and cancelled one day before the surgery and returned the payment. Now my eyes are disfigured, I must find a new job due to COVID and I look terrible and cannot wear makeup and am competing with younger people for the same jobs and it has now caused me considerable hardship. I was referred by Dr. Konrad Filutowski whom I have the greatest respect for and trust in after he performed my cataract surgery and had no idea that I would be left to look like this and have to now find someone who will repair his botched procedure and pay… even more when I have no job. I have even had psychological counseling due to this terrible stress and upset. Dr. Filutowski should stop sending his patients to Dr. Scruggs and Dr Scruggs has terrible bedside manner, does not explain things clearly and runs multiple procedures through in a day for a "quick fix" that will get no argument from insurance which is usually Medicare. Even his staff acts like they do not really care and it's just too bad if you are upset and left looking worse than when you went in and computerized photos make you look much worse than reality so they can say they did a good job. Extremely upset with the results of something that shouldn't be difficult to do well since it takes less than 15 minutes from what I was told.

I think he is a really great surgeon and glad he did my surgery. I do feel that his bedside manner could be improved. A bit taken with himself.

I highly recommend Dr. Scruggs! He took his time with me and answered all my questions in a pleasant way. He is an excellent surgeon. I am very happy with his results.

Worth the wait if you want his skill level.
