Dr. Safaa Shafik Hakim, MD

Dr. Hakim holds staunchly conservative views that she incorporated freely into sessions, at times urging emphatically to vote for George W. Bush because he was the only hope for America in the name of Jesus. The casual mention of unconversant marijuana use was misinterpreted and documented as a treacherous and sinful act, not the youthful rite of passage it merely was. Trying to explain how things like sounds and lights were always “amplified” only led to prescription antipsychotics. Discussing social situations I didn't understand or didn't want to be a part of were met with the suggestion to attend church and church groups. Dr. Hakim's religious predilections failed to recognize a legitimate Autism diagnosis and offer any actual coping skills beyond prayer. If you are not of religious ideal thought, perhaps another therapist may be a wise choice.

She tried to push her religion on me.

I feel that Dr. Hakim went into psychiatry because she was suffering from Mental illness herself. She definitely does not have very good people skills.

My overall experience with Dr. Hakim has been wonderful. She has been correct with every diagnosis. Her kindness and compassion comes through to her patients.
