Dr. Sam W Buchanan, DO

Dr. Buchanan was my General Surgeon when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was terrified of what would happen at my first consultation. He was very thorough, very gentle and compassionate, took his time and made sure that I understood what my diagnosis was and what the next steps would be. Two and a half hours later, I was much less afraid and was ready to move forward. Two health scares later, and Dr. Buchanan remained the same gentle, kind, and phenomenal physician. In keeping with his education and training to be an Osteopathic physician and Osteopathic Surgeon, he genuinely cares about the whole patient. You will never feel like a body part or less than a whole person. I was so blessed to have been referred to him when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was the beginning of a long and good patient-Doctor-friend relationship. I recommend him with great enthusiasm to anyone needing his expertise.

This doctor performed surgery on my loved one then disappeared. The staff was unable to locate him{initially thought he he might be performing emergency surgery but it turned out he left the hospital without notifying anyone} which meant his patient was in uncontrolled post surgical pain as they had administered what they had orders for, and had no orders for what they needed to do to keep the patient comfortable. The nurse caring for this patient was very upset as was the patient's family and loved ones. When finally located, he was not even planning on coming back and discussing the surgery with the family{although that is what surgeons do-they speak to families after surgery} and was only concerned that a family member who worked with his daughter might tell her what he had done. DOCTORS DO NOT ABANDON THEIR PATIENTS AFTER SURGERY WITHOUT HANDING OVER CARE TO ANOTHER PHYSICIAN-THIS DOCTOR DID SO. Interestingly, last information available stated he is no longer working at the… hospital where this incident occurred.
