Samantha Sandlow Mackman, MS, CGC, joined MCW’s genetic counseling team in August of 2020. She grew up in Southeast Wisconsin and attended Indiana University for her undergraduate degree. After finding her passion for genetic counseling, she received her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Northwestern University in Chicago. She has provided care to patients in prenatal, complex adult, and neurology specialties since her start at MCW. She now focuses on seeing patients for predictive testing for Huntington’s Disease as well as complex adult disease in the Adult Genomic Clinic. Sam is passionate about giving the best care to patients of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. She strives to make patients feel comfortable by building a concrete patient-provider relationship with solid communication and listening skills. She believes the key aspects in establishing a strong relationship occur by taking the time to evaluate each patient thoroughly, incorporating them in …the appropriate treatment plans, and educating them. She enjoys working collaboratively with her colleagues to provide the best care for each individual patient. She has worked with the genetic counseling program since its inception as a supervisor and lecturer. She has a special interest and passion for psychosocial courses and helping students reach their full potential in patient’s emotional and physical care.Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, family, and friends. She loves playing with her Bernedoodles Archie and Blue, traveling, and being outdoors.Sam is passionate about giving the best care to patients of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
