Dr. Samantha Graves Suffren, MD

I can’t believe she doesn’t have 5 Stars!!! Dr. Sufferin BY FAR is the BEST! I’ve been seeing drs. in her field since high school and I’m now about to turn 40, so I’ve had plenty of experience in this area! She is caring, compassionate, a good listner, no judgement, encouraging and overall a lovely person! I had post partum ocd after having my first child and she totally understood what I was walking thru. I’ve also had other mental health issues (anxiety, past abuse) and she is sooo helpful in these areas. She spends LOTS of time with me each appointment, not ten minutes and then throws some meds at me. There’s been numerous times she spent over a hour and half with me! Who does that?!? I also consider her my cheerleader and therapist when I go in to see her. My ob gyn & midwife recommended her and I’m sooo happy they did. I also know two therapist who send their female patients to her. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. I just wish there was a male version of her out there… for men!;) The major blessing is she takes INSURANCE!!!! I would pay out of pocket for her because she’s that helpful, but the insurance part takes a very heavy load off. In my experience it’s hard to find someone of her quality that also takes Insurance. This is a TRUE miracle! Also, you don’t find many black, American females working in this field, so it’s reassuring to see it. First time I’ve encountered it. Btw- check the locations first. I believe she no longer practices at several of these areas.

Dr. Suffren walked me through one of the scariest times in my life. She was compassionate, caring and extremely thorough. She not only provided medication management but also counseled me during my appointments. She spent as much time as I needed at each appointment. I can’t say enough about her. I would highly recommend her.

Dr Suffren was very professional and easy to talk to. I felt very comfortable in sharing my problems and concerns. The wait to get in as a patient was long, but well worth it.

Never would I recommend Dr Suffren to anyone, not even one of my dogs. She makes up her mind at once what your diagnosis is.Does not listen. I am a germaphobe and scared of strangers, never leave my house. How could she not understand that the worst treatment for me was a stint in the hospital with strange people all around. Was a nightmare. I should have gone somewhere private and not dealt with her and her lack of bedside manner.

I've been to five different Psychiatrists in the Charlotte area during the course of my treatment over 15 years for Anxiety. Dr. Suffren is one my favorite two doctors. Her office is convenient (near downtown), her staff is courteous and efficient, and she herself is very capable and has an excellent bedside manner. I recommend her highly.

My biggest issue with this doctor is that on two separate occasions she wrote out prescriptions for the WRONG MEDICATIONS. I can see making this mistake once (I guess) but she did it twice. She had my chart in front of her both times, too. I just felt like she was flighty or something. Also, I always had to wait like 45 minutes to see her. I told her that I didn't think that was okay and she fired me as a patient. Only she didn't tell me she was firing me. She she just said she'd refer me to someone else but I guess I was supposed to read between the lines. I think that you'd be smart to stay away from this doctor.
