Dr. Samantha Jane Thompson

Dr. Samantha “Sami” Thompson is pleased to return to her home state of Iowa to join Westrum Optometry. Raised in Knoxville, IA, she earned a B.A. from Central College—where she competed on the women’s tennis team—and completed her Doctor of Optometry at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, in 2024. Drawn to optometry for its blend of medical care, technology, and long-term patient relationships, Dr. Sami enjoys working with people of all ages and stages of vision health.

Her clinical focus includes primary eye care, myopia control, binocular vision dysfunction, and vision therapy, along with diagnosis and treatment of eye injuries, infections, and diseases. Common conditions she treats are refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia), dry eye and blepharitis, conjunctivitis, corneal abrasions and other ocular surface disorders, binocular vision disorders and amblyopia, glaucoma suspect monitoring and co-management, cataract evaluation and …co-management, diabetic retinopathy screening, and age‑related macular degeneration monitoring.

Dr. Sami offers a full range of optometric services and in‑office procedures, including comprehensive eye exams, slit-lamp evaluation, tonometry, dilated retinal exams, OCT and retinal imaging, visual field testing, contact lens fittings (including specialty lenses and orthokeratology), myopia control options (orthokeratology, low‑dose atropine, multifocal contact lenses), individualized vision therapy programs, foreign-body removal, urgent care for minor eye injuries, therapeutic prescribing, and pre/post‑operative co-management for cataract and refractive surgery. She looks forward to serving the Westrum Optometry community with compassionate, evidence-based care and welcomes new and returning patients of all ages.
