Dr. Samer Sbayi, MD

Hernia repair is a complicated topic that can lead people to opinions focused on the type of repair opposed to the skill of the surgeon, so I want to review Dr. Sbayi and the broader Stonybrook experience and not any specific procedure. For disclosure though I had open umbilical repair using the Shouldice procedure. I flew from Washington State to see Dr. Sbayi, he was straight forward and objective about the surgery I was seeking and focused on the pros and cons and whether I was a good candidate. He carefully answered my questions and set expectations and went on to exceed those expectations. The Stonybrook experience was very high quality, excellent quality control, process and good people. I had open hernia repair, I walked right out after waking up feeling little discomfort. I had a 3 hour car ride and was able to sit comfortably with some mild pain. By day 3 I had flown home, and was able to sit upright, stand and walk with almost no discomfort, only mild pain at the… limit of my motions and getting out of bed. I did not take a single pain medication from the moment I exited anesthesia, not even Advil or Tylenol By the end of the first week it was like I didnt even have surgery except for the mild swelling around the incision and repair. I'm now day 14 and feel great, occasionally feeling some mild sensations as my body heals. Dr. Sbayi is an excellent surgeon who exceeded all of my expectations. If you are the right candidate for the repair you seek and follow the recommendations you will be very pleased with Dr. Sbayi.

Dr. Sbayi did an amazing job on my hernia repair surgery. He was very thoughtful, kind and confident. I got back to my normal self so much quicker than I anticipated...thank you!

Worst locum surgeon ever at CARY Medical Center in Caribou, Maine. Arrogant, disrespectful, horrible bedside manner and failure to examine and diagnose. His extreme lack of medical professionalism and attention caused significant future health events for myself.

Doctor Sbayi is one of the best surgeons that I have had to use. I have had 8 major operations on my intestines and overall my experience with Dr Sbayi on my recent surgery was great.

I would recommend Dr. Sbayi to everyone.
