Dr. Samuel Herbert Basch, MD

I’m 85 years old, I’m sure I’ve seen far more than 85 doctors in that time. This is the single worst doctor I’ve ever met. This doctor showed no interest in me aside from the fact that I was going to pay him $400 per session. 1- We emailed the doctor immediately following a session in order to clarify the dosage and schedule for new medications he prescribed. I didn’t trust my memory of the conversation (I am 85) and my wife tried to clarify how I should take these medications. The doctor has not responded to this email to date which leaves me taking my medication in an unsafe manner (over 1 month ago). He does not have a working phone number and in order to clarify the dose of this medicine I need to make another appointment for $400. 2- My medication (mentioned above) ran out and we tried to refill it. The pharmacy and my family tried to reach the doctor to refill the prescription and no one can get in touch with him. The pharmacy gave me a 2 week supply as they said this is very… dangerous to stop so abruptly. We still cannot reach him. I am now desperately searching for a new psychiatrist with an opening before my 2 weeks of medication runs out. Truly appalling. I have filed a complaint with Mt Sinai’s psychiatric department. Avoid this doctor at all costs unless you want to find yourself out a few thousand dollars and in a even worse position than when you began.

This doctor is a complete quack. Horrible experience! Urge you to stay away, save your $400 and use it to see someone who will actually care enough to help you. I'm a doctor myself, when a patient comes to see me and they're in pain, I don't waste the entire session explaining to them that their condition is completely treatable and they'll feel better with proper medication only at the end of the visit to get them out the office and tell them that they'll get medication from me NEXT TIME THEY COME TO SEE ME. That's right, this is what this so called doctor did. He basically wasted the entire session on talking about my condition but at the end threw me out saying that our time was up and he had his next patient waiting already. At that point I flat out asked him what am I supposed to do in the meantime ? Suffer until my next visit ? I mean how long does it take to write a prescription ?! Clearly he doesn't care about his patients well being, he just wanted me to come in AGAIN and pay… him ANOTHER $400 for a prescription. Also, he had this grin on his face the entire time I was talking about my condition, showed zero empathy. HORRIBLE! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED.

I can't say enough about the high quality and professionalism of Dr. Basch. He has immeasurably helped me and given me the insight and skills to move forward in my job and in my marriage. I am grateful and strongly recommend him.

I certainly would not recommend this doctor. Incredibly rude. Does not take notes and therefore can not remember any details of his patients history. Falls asleep in sessions. Felt it was appropriate to raise His rate from $350 to $400 for 50 minutes because after 4 years the patient could no longer come in bi monthly.

DR. Basch saved my life, how can I ever repay him. I was depressed and Dr. Basch promptly diagnosed why and was able over the course of a year to help me deal with my life. I saw him again later to deal with and solve other problems that arose.

Dr. Basch is kind and considerate and he really knows what he is doing. I was out of state and he followed up with all my labs in a very timely manner. Nothing but the best rating for this guy.

I can't believe how rude he was on the phone. I wouldn't have an issue with it, but if he's rated one of the 10 best doctors of his field in this City, and he charges $350 for 1 hour of his time, decency would be a minimum no?
