Dr. Samuel Paul Hunkler, MD

I was referred to this facility being new in town. When talking to the receptionist I made it very clear my meds would be due in a week. I provided my medical records, and my appointment was scheduled 1 week later on the exact day my meds were due. I showed up at my appointment, at first they said "you're not in our system." Then three women left the window into another glass room with a phone & computer. They came out and told me "Dr. Hunkler will not be accepting you as a patient, we sent you a letter." I'm totally disgusted with the entire staff. The alleged "doctor" is not honoring his "OATH" and at the very LEAST they could have CALLED ME! I still haven't received the "letter" (liars). They don't care enough to even follow protocol on our American Flag! I am a VETERAN! And it sickens me that it's waving in SHREDS on their property! Disgraceful on every level!

This heartless hack treats palliative care patients like drug addicts, cutting them off their medicine and causing enormous physical and mental anguish. My father has been disabled for thirty years following a deadly explosion that left him with temporary blindness, permanent eye damage, degenerative arthritis, spinal stenosis, herniated disks with nerve impingement, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis in the knees. He was an emaciated skeleton in constant agony until he was prescribed opioids which allowed him to have some sort of quality of life. After my father's doctor retired he got stuck seeing Dr. Hunkler the Heartless Hack whose first order of business was to take him off his medicine and treat him with cold contempt. Shortly thereafter my father suffered a severe seizure and nearly died. He was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where two different doctors attributed the seizure in large part to the sudden drop in medication and stress caused by it. Dr. Hunkler is personally… responsible for my father's near-death and hospitalization as well as the trauma it caused me and my family, including his two little granddaughters who idolize him. Please replace Dr. Hunkler with someone who treats palliative care patients with respect, not like drug addicts. And to Dr. Hunkler and Down East Community Hospital, you should be ashamed of yourself, if you even have the capacity to feel shame.

Dr. Hunkler is a very good Dr. he has a great bedside manner and truly cares for his patients. He is very easy to talk to and a great listener... He treats patients with respect and has great insight upon evaluating... I feel he is one of the best Drs. around ...
