Dr. Samuel Dion Macomson, MD

Dr. Macomson removed a brain tumor and he saved my life. He is very caring and understanding. I am thankful for his skill and dedication.

We live 2 hours away from Augusta but wanted our special needs 24 year old son to have the best neurosurgeon so we carried a copy of his MRI with us on the date of my son's appointment. Dr. Macomson stated by reading from a print out in a folder that it was scar tissue from his previous surgery of 5 years ago and the only way to treat it was with pain management and therapy. We asked if it was ok for our son to have foot surgery with the back pain. He said it would be perfectly fine.We left and then my husband made the remark that he didn't feel the doctor read the MRI after we brought it because he read from a print out in the folder. I called and spoke with Audrey who said she would ask if he actually read the MRI and call me back. Three weeks later she still had not contacted me. I called her back and she said "yea, he said yea he read it himself." We drove 2 hours for him to read the MRI and he didn't! My son had the foot surgery and is doing fine from the foot surgery but… is in severe back pain! Not compassionate at all! I don't know how or why he would be voted one of the top doctors in America. We were very disappointed from our visit and follow up. He is not what he professes to be! Not worth 2 hours or 2 minutes drive to this doctor. A total waste.

We are military family and we have seen many drs. This Dr is by far THE WORST!!! MY daughter has had hydrocephalus since birth and being stationed in Augusta this Dr was our only option. My daughter just had two brain hematomas before we moved here, it was urgent to get a CT scan to follow up and it took over a month to get in. When we were seen the Dr was very brief , made comments that upset me that he should of known better than, and on top of that took months to get me the results. These results were crucial to my daughters health, I would call everyday and the front desk said they would leave him a message to call me back and for over a month he never did. Finally I had to call outrages and he then returned my call, which when he was talking sounded as if he was JUST then trying to go over the results and didn't know anything. I was very disapointed, now we are PCSing and I need my daughters old scans he requested and I called 3 weeks ago and still nothing. I WOULD NOT GO HERE… !!!!!

He's done 3 surgeries on my son & I would recommend him to anyone! He was so patient & understanding and explained everything so well to us. He truly helped save my son's life more than once!

i have been trying to get in connect with this doctor for almost two months now and i still haven't talked to him or his associate

My husband found out last summer that he had a disease called Chiari Malformation. The first surgery that he had to fix this problem was a very complex surgery. He also had 2 other surgeries and 2 lumbar punctures since then. We spent a total of 21 days in the hospital and numerous visits to the doctor. During all of this, Dr. Macomson wonderful to us. He always came by to see us when we were in the hospital. Even when we went home, he contacted us often to check on his progress. He always responded back to our phone calls as well. He came in several times to see about my husband, even when he was not on call. He is the type of doctor that you can genuinely tell that he cares. I truely believe that it is a passion that he has to be a doctor and it is not just a job to him. He is the most wonderful doctor ever! I wish that he could be our family doctor for everything. There is no way that I would change our decision to let him be our doctor. I would recommend him to… anyone.
