Dr. Samuel Kirk Payne, MD

Dr Payne moved to Newport News VA and joined the oncology practice my mom went to right around the time her oncologist retired. She was assigned to Dr. Payne. He barely listened to her or did anything to help her. She told him she was exhausted all the time and was having night sweats again. He told her to drink more water. Literally. She told him she had a lump under her arm and asked him to look at it. He said, “cancer doesn’t come and go.“ He never looked at it but a mammogram that her family doctor ordered showed that she had lymphoma growing again. By the time he left the practice, my mom could barely walk because she kept falling, she could barely get out of bed, she had night sweats constantly, and she had no appetite. The next oncologist she saw after Payne left put her into the hospital immediately. Everything she was going through were side effects from the medicine she was on but she suffered for months because he basically ignored her when she brought up the issues she… was having. I would not recommend him at all.

Dr. Payne has been my oncologist since I had surgery in May 2008. He immediately put my fears to rest. He brought in all the most up-to-date information about my type of cancer. He gave me the printed latest studies so I could read the information later. He is warm and comforting. I never feel like I am another number.
