Dr. Samuel Smith, MD

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr Smith. Thanks to him I was able to conceive my youngest, who is now 21 years.

Throughout my time visiting Dr. Smith, he was visibly condesending and made a racially charged comment about my appearance that had no relevancy to the issue I’d come for. It was to the point that even the female nurse in the room with him was clearly uncomfortable with the way he handled things. He treats his patients with the bare minimal amount of respect he can get away with, and I was quick to switch to another doctor ASAP.

Last month I saw Dr. Smith for an evaluation as a first time patient. I’m 21, and was sexually assaulted in 2016. I went through my history of depression, anxiety, OCD, body dysmorphic disorder, and sexual abuse in great detail to make sure he understood how nervous I was. After telling him I have body dysmorphic disorder and how hard it is for me to leave the house, he told me that I need to lose 10lbs in order to not be in the obese category. I thought it was a very unkind thing to say when the illness is about obsessing over minor imperfections and weight gain. I was there because of pain during intercourse after the assault, not to be told I was fat. This was a major set back for me. Before the exam started I asked if we could stop in the middle if it became too much for me and he acted frustrated and as if I was being a real bother. I was clearly terrified and I told him that I have never been able to do an exam since the assault. During the next visit in the middle of the exam I… said I needed a break and after 10 seconds he continued while I was shaking without asking me if I was okay. It took me months to be able to gather the courage to see a gynocologist and I picked Dr. Smith because he had such great reviews. I was treated with such a lack of sensitivity that I am unable to go back to a gynocologist although I desperately need help. From a medical point of view, Dr. Smith is a wonderful doctor. If you have a history of mental illness or sexual abuse - I strongly suggest you go to someone who is compassionate and understanding of how hard these things can be. Im not the kind of person who leaves a negative review easily, but after this experience I don’t think it would be right not to.
