Dr. Sandeep Gaonkar, MD

Dr Gaonkar was able to capture my illness through his assessment and gifted acumen. I had been a patient of the #1 rated psychiatrist in Wheaton, and medical director of nearby facility for 17 years. My refractory illness lingered. This gentle man listened and observed and saw me as an individual. He didn't see me as my disease. I have had two years of high quality life. Disease free survival. Because I understand mental ilness, I know it progresses, and medications become less effective. But I don't live in fear about that anymore. I have a Dr. who will figure that out.

I have seen Dr. Gaonkar for years and find him to be so kind, so supportive and spends a great deal of time with me each visit to assure my life is stable and going well. He is so respectful and open to any information I feel may benefit me. Wonderful human being altogether!

I'm a college student who was diagnosed with ADHD by another psychiatrists and counselor. I was always hesitant to taking medication, however later realized I needed it. I left the old psychiatrist due to his lack of care, and listening. I visited Dr. Gaonkar when experiencing spells of depression and bizarre behavior episodes. Dr. Gaonkar listened to my situation, and is not quick to diagnosing because he wants to take his time to fully understand his patients over a period of time. He gave me samples of some medication and made an ADHD medication switch as well. I noticed almost immediate results, but it still wasn't perfect. He drew on paper a timeline of my life, what was happening in my head, and how that is effecting my behavior. He explained a treatment plan using the medication that have zero side effects--for me at least--that are designed to suppress symptoms and repair/reverse the issue. THIS CHANGED MY LIFE IMMENSELY! My family has noticed the change and said they… have "their old me again". My only gripe is that they don't send electronic prescriptions. This poses a challenge for me because I attend school across state lines, so occasionally I run into issues obtaining my medication.

Presence mercy medical center I was hospitalized I was extremely bad condition with bipolar symptoms dr gaonkar treated me very well with his treatment he got me out of hospitalization. After wards I took couple of years treatment for my bipolar from him as a outpatient. He was so empathetic, kind towards me aswell he took safety measures treating my bipolar condition, aswell he gave counseling for me and for my husband about bipolar disorder and reasons for my illness. He is excellent at diagnosing , treating mental health conditions. Telling about how great psychiatric dactor he is few things it’s not sufficient about him. I was so sensitive to psychiatric medications he put me on low doses so that meds will be effective without causing severe side effects. Dr gaonkar was available after hours also over phone to my husband when I was severely ill. I am always thankful to him safe effective kind treatment for my bipolar.

Dr. Gaonkar is a quiet man, yet listens keenly. I have been on medication for 33 years. Lost effectiveness, I was hopeless. He gave me a sample of the med he believed would help me. I doubted... I had been hopeless for years. I was feeling more poorly than I expressed. I took a dose at bedtime. I woke up with an unbelievable change in mood. My initial thought was "WOW". I am so grateful. I have had years of failed trial medications I had stopped believing. He was able to pinpoint the medication that is almost an antidote for this virulent illness, I am so grateful. There may come a time when this medication is no longer effective. ( years from now , or never , I hope). But I no longer fear the future with Dr. Gaonkar. I know what it feels like to suffer decades with intractable depression. I have lived with only partial relief for years, I doubted a pharmaceutical breakthrough in my lifetime. I am grateful for the medication breakthrough. But More importantly , I found a … Dr. with the acumen to prescribe it for me.

I saw dr Gondar twice. The front desk told me that the first appointment will take a while. I was there maybe 5 minutes. The second appointment was two weeks later to follow up on how I was doing. I was doing much better. However as soon as I sat down in his room I got up and left. I guess my answer was good enough for him that he didn't feel deeper. A month or two later I wasn't feeling great at all and put three calls into him to call me back. I still have yet to hear from him. I'm sure the front desk knows that he's not going to call me back not sure why they just wouldn't tell me that. I hate being led on. I am now in search of a doctor who cares about their patients not just about making money. I just think that it's really sad that there are doctors out there like this. He shouldn't be in business.

Dr. Gaonkar, is a very professional and compassionate human being. He would always be there for us his patients. I personally recommend Dr. Gaonkar based on my own experience which has been good. His staff is so polite, when I need help they even take extra steps to assist me. Something that made me write this review is not just my appreciation to Dr. Gaonkar and all his staff, but a review from a called Dr. who feels good posting lies about Dr. Sandeep. Please be sure that he is good to us patients and I have never seen him doing anything unprofessional, not to mention saying inappropriate words to us the not bad looking ladies :} It feels good to have Doctors like him.

Dr. Gaonkar- I would never recommend this doctor because his bedside manner is poor. He barely ever calls back and only talks to you in appointments. Very hard to get a hold of even in an emergency. He is nice, but has poor listening skills.
