Dr. Sandra Soohyun Kwak, MD

I am truly shocked by the harsh reviews I have seen here. I've been a patient of Dr. Kwak's for about 6 years, and I have found her very professional and thorough, she explains everything very clearly and we review my dosages and any changes in my medication and history so she can adjust accordingly. She and her staff are always pleasant and they follow up before my appointments to check that I'm scheduled for my labwork so I don't forget. Unlike so many other medical offices, her appointments always run on time. Overall, very professional office and doctor.

My last appointment with Dr. Kwak was the literally the worst Dr. appointment I've ever had in my life. Prior to this experience I thought she was extremely rude to her staff. She'd open the door during my appointments to bark orders at them and ask if her next appointment had arrived. (Lots of rules about arriving on time and don't dare be late!) I saw her for thyroid maintenance every 9 months - she wanted to keep me on a low dose since I was thinking about getting pregnant again. This past visit I shared with her that I recently had a missed miscarriage. Her first response was "why didn't you call me? I could have possibly prevented that from happening." She went on to say she stops miscarriages from happening every day and she would have been able to help me. I stopped her in the middle of her arrogant, insensitive speech to let her know she just made me feel like the miscarriage was my fault and she was completely unaware of how horrible she had delivered her message and continued… to repeat how she could have prevented that from happening and next time I should call her before my OB so it doesn't happen again. Horrible bedside manner and complete lack of awareness around sensitive losses that she boasted about dealing with on a daily basis. My miscarriage had nothing to do with my thyroid - my OB checked my levels - and as we finished the appointment Dr. Kwak confirmed that all levels look great. Please keep looking for someone else, I will save you from a horrible experience.

I have had Hashimoto’s disease for more than 24 yrs. I’ve been to several Endocrinologists over the years in several different states. This is my FIRST review on line but I wanted to save everyone some time in NOT MAKING AN APPOINTMENT with Dr Sandra Kwan. She was curt, seemingly disinterested, hardly made eye contact, shushed me more than once & “centered” herself by snapping her fingers. Was rude to her staff, me, it was unbelievable. Its pretty straightforward in my experience as an Endo patient. Blood tests. Office visits. Showing up for both. If I was a NEW patient & went to Dr Kwan I might never return. I only had to find a new Endo because mine closed shop. I will never return & do all that I can to dissuade potential patients to go to her! If there was a 1/2 star or no-star raining I would have clicked those!

I was a patient of Dr. Kwak in 2018. My initial observation was that the office was tightly wound up and Dr. Kwak lacked personal connection, which didn’t strike me as a negative at the time; naturally offices and doctors/people will vary in energy and protocols. However, my initial noticing began to unravel, and I discovered every time I advocated for myself or asked reasonable questions like, why are you changing my medication, my dose, or why might my body be responding this way, Dr. Kwak immediately became defensive or short and in some instances blatantly rude and unprofessional. All doctors should follow a certain code of conduct even if they themselves are not compassionate or warm individuals; Dr. Kwak lacks basic respect and professional courtesies when asked the simplest of questions. I found a new endocrinologist (multiple actually), who speak to me with respect and with proper doctor-patient communication. After seeing my experience completely validated online by MANY… negative reviews in multiple forums stating the EXACT same complaints and then personally hearing she had a reputation for this kind of behavior, I felt called to share and validate the next patient who has a similar experience. I imagine Dr. Kwak is intelligent, but her subpar bedside manner, unprofessional knee-jerk reactions and inability to answer questions at all or with respect completely overshadow her text book abilities. I am surprised a reputable organization like HOAG would endorse a doctor with so many corroborated grievances.

If I could give this doctor negative 10 stars, I would. She is by far the WORST, most unprofessional doctor I have ever seen. Her and her office staff seem miserable everyday for starters. There is nothing welcoming or positive about walking in there. For two, they are VERY high pressure. They literally harass you about when you are getting your blood done and where. They also want to dictate what lab you go to as well as which location to fit their preference. This doctor has no idea what it's like having a family and children and expects everyone to follow her schedule and what she expects to a T. I feel like I enlisted in the Military by agreeing to be her patient. If you miss an appointment, you get a threatening letter from her office stating that you will be dropped if you don't call her office immediately. They will also bill you for things when they don't belong to you or when there are errors on their behalf. In this day and age, reviews are important and I appreciate every… single one I have read so I feel like I owe it to future patients looking for an endo. Please save yourself the time and frustration, there are many other doctors who are far more compassionate and don't operate their office like they are in the 80s. I'm beyond disgusted at the way I was treated here and would never ever recommend this doctor to anyone.

Dr. Kwak treated me like I'm part of the family, always writes down what she instructed me to do so that I don't forget and made sure that i get a copy of my lab results. Dr. Kwak is an outstanding physician!!!

If you want a condescending Doctor who is annoyed when you ask questions, humiliates her staff in front of you, has the worst bedside manner ever, treats you like a child, threatens she is going to run radioactive scans if you don't follow her instructions then she is your Doctor.

She is extremely nice and highly competent.
