Dr. Sang Won Lee, MD

Divine intervention! After being dx with colon cancer and told that I needed 30 days of oral chemo & radiation, surgery with a colostomy bag, intravenous chemo for 6 mo. and a second surgery to reverse the colostomy bag “standard procedure.” I requested a second opinion and had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Lee. This surgeon is gifted and extremely knowledgeable. I was in surgery 10 days after my initial appt. Left the hospital with no colostomy bag and clean margins. He was very tentative, compassionate and has wonderful bedside manners. His staff/team and nurses AMAZING! Dr. Lee is an archangel here on earth if you ask me.

Dr. Lee gave me my life back. I had gone to a different doctor before seeing Dr. Lee who seemed almost uninterested in my problem. Under that doctor's care I kept getting worse. When I finally saw Dr. Lee he completely understood my problem and knew exactly how to deal with it. He was smart and informed and had even conducted his own studies about the issue with which I was suffering. He spent time with me and listened to all my issues and then gave me detailed options. I opted for a surgery. And I am so grateful that I did. I finally feel like myself again. Dr. Lee is one of the best doctors I have ever been to.

I had gone to another colorectal surgeon thru my wife's insurance. I had several diagnostic studies to determine the stage of my cancerous tumor. The studies didn't agree but this surgeon took to surgery and when woke up from surgery he had done nothing because the tumor was "too big". At that point I lost total confidence in him and decided to get a second opinion. I believe this decision eventually saved my life. I then decided to obtain a second opinion and was evaluated by Dr Sang Lee. He set in motion a plan that included a short course of radiation followed within 2 weeks colorectal surgeon. His surgery was able to remove all my cancer including 19 lymph nodes that were also negative for cancer. The care I received from Dr Lee and his team including the nursing staff at Keck Hospital was second to none. I couldn't thank Dr Lee, his staff and Keck Hospital's nursing staff enough. I believe I owe them my life.

Dr. Lee specializes in minimally invasive techniques In colorectal surgery. Using a minimal procedure that he developed, I was able to return home on the same day as surgery. The pain has been far less than what I expected managed only by Tylenol and Gabapentin. He has a warm bedside manner and is a good communicator.

Having had colon surgery 30 years ago, I was looking for a surgeon that was able to perform laparoscopic surgery for my current colon cancer. Dr. Lee described his procedure in great detail and followed through with a successful and flawless surgical procedure. My recovery time in the hospital was minimal and I returned to a normal lifestyle in about two weeks. Dr. Lee's staff and the quality hospital experience were the best ever. I am grateful for Dr. Lee's skill, knowledge, and experience. It certainly worked for me.

you do have to wait..but he is worth it. my mom had colon cancer and she felt no pain after her surgery and no scar..he went right thru the belly button..great bedside manners and does not rush you...

After two years and several doctors, we were fortunate to have been able to meet with an amazing team of doctors including Dr. Sang Lee. We left our home which was 500 miles away to meet with Dr. Lee after doctors had told us that the only option my 12 year old daughter had was to has a complete removal of her rectum. After a total of 10 minutes in Dr. Lee's office, he offered us an option that would require an out-patient surgery with a 3-5 day recuperation period. I don't know that I've ever been as happy in my life. The procedure was a success and has given my daughter her life back. Dr. Lee was professional, accommodating, informative and kind. I would very strongly recommend this surgeon! My understanding is that he has left New York Presbyterian Hospital. I am hoping that I will be able to track him down in the event that my daughter (or anyone else) might need him again in the future.

Dr. Lee is not the most personable guy, but he is an outstanding colorectal surgeon and exceeded my expectations vastly. I went to him for what was both a discomfort and a cosmetic issue in a sensitive location. It was bothersome and difficult to keep clean. His work was flawless. The area feels, functions and appears like new. I can't believe how good the result was - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Lee to anyone considering a colorectal procedure.

Dr Lee spend quite a bit of time with me and answered all questions thoroughly. He recommend a procedure that was less invasive and the surgery was very successful. I would highly recommend. He is on the quiet side at times but always attentive.

I had a stage one rectal cancer. Dr. Lee took a great deal of time during consultation to fully explain all aspects of treatment. His attention to detail was comforting and instilled confidence in me. Surgery was flawless and my result and follow up has been excellent. And, he is a very decent guy to boot!
