Dr. Sanjeev Nath, MD

I have been a long-time patient of Dr. Nath. At the beginning of 2017, his office stopped booking appointments. I don't know what happened but I had to switch eye doctors. I've had ongoing medical issues since birth and have seen Dr. Nath for nearly 30 years, so it was really bizarre that all of a sudden I couldn't make an appointment. Dr. Nath has consistently been one of the only doctors I knew who could put me at ease and who I enjoyed talking to. Luckily, I was recently able to book an appointment again but only at the Jackson Heights office (I used to go to the Manhattan one but I think it is still closed) on a Saturday. I am glad to be able to go back to Dr. Nath but I want an explanation for why I was not able to make an appointment last year. I think the office should have communicated with its patients. It looks like things are back to normal now but I still want to know what was going on.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The lady at the front desk was very sweet, but the office was in disarray and appeared extremely disorganized. She seemed overwhelmed with work, and there were stacks of papers all over the place. Not a good first impression. They have a weird "open office" policy I guess you could call it, where patients sit in the same examination room together. I initially thought this meant in rooms while eye tests are being performed (fine by me), but no, it's in the doctor's office! This means your personal information, finances, insurance, etc. are all being discussed in front of a complete stranger! I felt very awkward sitting there (literally 5 ft away) listening to a man's health information, full name, and finance situation. I certainly wouldn't want MY information disclosed that way. I believe they do this to give the illusion that patients are being seen in a timely manner (not the case), but I was just sitting there waiting for my turn.… Something I could've done in the waiting room while the other man still maintains his privacy. Granted they do give you a form stating this policy, I personally misunderstood what this meant, but just be aware this may not be for you. Now on to the unprofessional behavior of this doctor. After waiting a couple of hours, he strolls in with suitcases apologizing to everyone that he just returned from vacation. Why weren't the patients informed that the doctor was not even there? Despite being late he did not present a sense of urgency. Once I'm finally seen the first thing he does is try to use me as a recruiting source for hiring staff in order to increase his web presence, even giving me his personal email which I did not ask for. Then he went into a philosophical conversation, asking me inane questions, gave me details about his family and his vacation, I could go on but I digress. I told him from the very beginning that I've been waiting for quite a while and I just wanted to get on with the appointment and go home. He must've gone on with personal conversation for over 30 minutes, meanwhile we only spoke for 10 minutes about my actual eyes. I went in for a simple eye exam to get a prescription. Instead, I walked out having had a variety of unnecessary eye tests and hooked up to machines that I did not ask for. Probably a ploy to stall as he had not yet arrived at the office. From my past eye doctor experiences, what could have been a 30-60 minute appointment turned into an over 3 hour lesson of red flags to look out for. AND I still never got my prescription! At the end of the appointment he informs me that they do not perform the test there and to ask my previous doctor to send over the information for my previous contact lens prescription. Such a waste of time. STAY AWAY.

very abrupt manner, not courteous, long wait on the phone

Dr. Nath uses the whole body approach and sees way beyond the obvious.He has been known to heal and serve his community for over 25 years, and is a third generation Ophthalmologist with experience far surpassing even the brightest lights within his specialty. True, he has little patience for hypochondriacs or unreasonable attitudes. As far as wait time is concerned, I'd rather know I'm safe then rush into the unknown..
