Dr. Sanjul Patel, MD

If I could put 0 stars I would. I would NEVER recommend. The second Dr. Patel stepped into the room with my husband and I (my husband was seeing him as a new patient) he was disinterested. My husband sent overall his medical record ahead of time as he had recently fractured his spine before the appointment. When Dr. Patel asked what brought him into the office today, my husband responded he wanted to start his health journey with his gut since he has had chronic stomach issues for years Dr. Patel said “yes so your weight and stomach” and then proceeded to talk about my husbands weight saying “we have this thing called the BMI and yours is ____ and we need to get it ____ “ and then asked if he wanted to do “diet, exercise, or do weight loss medication?” Mind you, my husband is sitting in front of him with a walker and a broken back. My husband was able to advocate for himself about how his health issues have been dismissed in the past for his weight but no matter what he did or what… he weighed these issues have persisted since childhood. Dr. Patel said he will order some labs to see if there is inflammation in the body and potentially an inflammation disorder in his gut but that he thinks it’s probably IBS. He then started to explain how some people have anxiety and that can hurt their stomachs and cause issues. He went back to the weight loss conversation and when I mentioned my husband had lost 30 pounds this year with diet and exercise before his accident, Dr. Patel said “well diet and exercise can only go so far” and started to push on medication choices, even after my husband said he does not feel comfortable with weight loss medication. We left and did labs and got a call a couple days later. Turns out there was blood markings of inflammation and my husband should see a GI. What’s the next steps in his treatment according to Dr. Patel? Go on a low fat, low carb diet and do exercise and come back in 6-12 months. The worst doctor experience we have ever had. Dr. Patel did not ask any questions about my husband’s life style before his injury nor did he take his injury serious. Every time my husband tried to explain something or talk, he would cut him off and made assumptions on my husbands behavior. He did not care at all. He was pushy with medication and showed no interest in my husband’s health at all. I don’t know if it’s due to my husband being younger than what appears to be Dr. Patel’s normal average age of clients but it was disappointing. My husband booked him because of his high reviews but it’s obvious that something is up since he averages 5 stars but his actions contradict what the reviews say. Again, I would not recommend.

Extremely responsive and thoughtful. Does same day appointments and very knowledgeable. Have recommended him to all my friends and family.
