Dr. Saqib Hasan, MD

I was referred to Dr. Hasan after multiple epidurals failed to effectively relieve the back and leg pain from a serious fall. It was so bad that I could barely walk, and only then with a cane, and thus out-of-work as a consulting engineer. Despite the initial 'sticker shock' of an emerging, unlisted procedure, I was in so much pain down my leg from my lumbar radiculopathy, that I decided to take a chance on Dr. Hasan's micro-endoscopic surgical technique to relieve the arthritic-enhanced vertebral pressure on the inflamed nerve. I was so glad that I did, as that horrible pain was essentially GONE by the time the anesthesia wore off, and is still gone nearly seven months later! Wait times at Golden State Orthopedic can vary widely, but Dr. Hasan is a very patient and congenial practitioner who has never rushed my exam or review times.

I had a three-disc cervical replacement, and Dr. Hasan was outstanding from start to finish. He explained everything clearly, made me feel completely at ease, and the surgery was a total success. My neck pain and nerve symptoms improved almost immediately, and my recovery has gone better than I ever imagined. Truly skilled, caring, and trustworthy — I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon.

After 23 years, I no longer have sciatic nerve pain, numbness in my feet or pinching of the nerves in my lower back! Dr. Hasan and his team (including Lester Ma and Yolanda who handles scheduling) were amazing at helping me through the process. I had a two part spinal fusion which was the best solution for my condition because the disc deterioration was so advanced. I realize now that I should have had the surgery a few years earlier but I was scared of back surgery and was using PT, exercise, chiropractic and accupuncture to manage. At a certain point these holistic modalities no longer worked for my 6’5” frame. I was developing scoliosis and my mobility was severely compromised. I asked to see an orthopedic surgeon because I ran out of options. I learned Dr. Hasan was one of the best in the area and when I got in to see him, he knew exactly what would help me and was very reassuring. I’m still working on rebuilding strength in my legs and core due to atrophy of my muscles from the… period where I couldn’t walk well. I’m also working on restoring sensation to the nerves in my right leg that were over actively causing my leg muscles to contract to protect my back. It’s a process for me to regain my strength and mobility now which thankfully I can do without fear of causing further damage to the nerves stemming from my L4/5 and L5/S1 discs. My surgery was at San Ramon Hospital and I’m deeply appreciative of the excellent care I received there and for Dr. Hasan’s skilled expertise. This surgery is allowing me to reclaim my quality of life. Thank you immensely for taking me on as a patient and for doing this important work.

I recently had lower back surgery done by Dr. Hasan & everything went well. I was very pleased with the pre-surgery info that was presented to me & also that they had a cancellation & Dr. Hasan's team was able to get my surgery done sooner. Dr. Hasan's approach to lower back pain was honest & straightforward as I had 2 steroid cortisone injections first that didn't get me much relief before proceeding with the surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Hasan if you're currently experiencing any kind of back or hip pain.

Most health care providers are nice people, and Dr. Hasan is no exception. But spine surgery was a scary prospect, and a tad expensive. Dr. Hasan was so confident and reassuring, that I took a chance with him, and am I ever glad that I did. After suffering for 18 months with Radiculopathy, I was barely able to walk after multiple bilateral epidurals, and in severe pain the last 6 months. Dr. Hasan’s micro-endoscopic spine surgery left me with absolutely NO pain in either leg by the very next morning! That was 6 weeks ago, and there has been no re-emergence of the leg pain. Sure, there is some healing time and physical therapy rehab needed, but I couldn’t be happier with the efforts of Dr. Hasan and his staff.

It was obvious to me on my first visit back in the summer of 2024, that he enjoys how he can help others with less invasive procedures. Dr. Hasan treated me for a disc bulge (L5-S1) that was pressing against the nerve from my lower back to my foot. It was the most excruciating pain I've ever had. He treated me quickly first with a less invasive approach - an epidural. When that didn't give me relief, we moved to an endopic surgery that's as minimally invasive and should be the new standard for back surgeries. He was very thoughtful, answering all my questions and concerns. The procedure gave me immediate relief. I'm now 6 weeks out and feeling very good. Still having normal pains and taking it slow but I'm so thanful to not be in pain any longer. I'd highly recommend Dr. Hasan as well as his entire team. I recently had a consultation with an orthopedic doctor through workers' comp, and honestly, I was disappointed with the experience. The entire visit lasted about 10 minutes, which felt extremely rushed. I didn’t feel like I was properly listened to or thoroughly examined. The doctor barely asked questions, gave very little explanation about my condition, and didn’t take the time to address my concerns or offer a clear plan moving forward. It felt like just a quick check-off for paperwork rather than a real medical evaluation. I left the appointment feeling confused and unsure about my next steps. I expected more from a specialist, especially when dealing with a work-related injury. I’m now looking into getting a second opinion because this visit didn’t help at all.
