Sara Ali, MD, MPH

I was born and raised in Egypt and earned my medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine. After moving to California, I joined Stanford University’s Division of Public Mental Health and Population Sciences as a researcher, where my work focused on cultural psychiatry and the ways history, culture, and community systems shape mental health.

I completed my adult psychiatry residency and Master of Public Health at the University of New Mexico, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford University. I enjoy working with both adults and children, with a particular interest in supporting women across different stages of life. I have particular experience working with young children, play therapy, and parent-child relationships.

My approach to treatment is individualized and strengths-based. I consider the whole person, including biological, psychological, social, cultural, family, school, and community factors. Depending on each person’s needs, …treatment may include medication, individual or family therapy, parenting strategies, lifestyle and behavioral interventions, and other evidence-informed approaches.
