Dr. Sarah Winkelmeyer Holt, DO

She is a wonderful physician!

Dr. Holt was my physician for several years before she moved to New Orleans. I miss her terribly but know she is doing good where she is. She has a "missionary heart" as described to me by other physicians in our area, and as seen as part of the reason she chose to move to LA. Dr. Holt is not the type to mince words, nor sugarcoat the issue, but you can trust that she is telling you the truth. I can see how some personalities would not like that trait in her; but, I am not thin skinned nor judgemental. I like her enough that I introduced my mother and took my daughter to see Dr. Holt as soon as she was was old enough. My mother "hated" doctors with all she had but she adored Dr. Holt until the day she passed away. Fingers crossed that someday she will return to Lancaster, PA

Dr. Holt has always put me at ease and seemed more like a good friend than just a doctor. Her concern for my health is reassuring that I am getting the best care. She takes her time and listens to my concerns.

Dr. Holt may be a good fit for some, but I was met with great hostility when I questioned a diagnosis she made after only one introductory appointment for a general physical. She is not an MD, nor is there any evidence of specialization in psychiatric studies, so I was surprised when she diagnosed me with PTSD... a decision that ended up as an additional charge on my bill by the way, because insurance would not cover it. I chose Dr. Holt hoping her studies as an osteopath would indicate a certain receptivity to some of the alternative therapies that I use to manage chronic pain from reconstructive surgery for scoliosis. Instead, I was told I must be one of "those earthy types" for reaping benefits from acupuncture, massage therapy, and Rolfing. No one likes to be labeled, (nor is that type of labeling very professional in my opinion), and it was clear she didn't respect my regime of self care. Simply put, we were not a good fit. Patients have a responsibility to… communicate with their providers and ask questions, and doctors should be able to handle this without becoming defensive and condescending.

I know everyone has a personality & sometimes personalities clash. Dr. Holt's manner seems very antagonistic and patronizing. I sought her out specifically because of her D.O. training, but she let me know immediately that she didn't think much of that medical paradigme, which is unfortunate. She went on to be oppositional toward me whenever possible. I decided to find a new physician when I realized I was avoiding regular check-ups because I didn't want to see her & encounter her confrontational demeanor.

I am so happy to have found Dr Holt and she is my PCP. She is always warm, courteous and never in a rush. She is amazing with her diagnosises and the follow up on care is wonderful. I am an older woman and tend to have problems. I have not stumped her yet. She is always quick on the diagnosis & quick with the help. I just love her and recommend her to everyone I know. :)
