Dr. Sarah Hougen Poggi, MD

Dr. Poggi helped my husband and I bring home our baby after 4 pregnancy losses, including an unexplained 20 week loss, and we could not have done it without her guidance and support! I really appreciated Dr. Poggi’s thoroughness. She helped us investigate potential causes of our unexplained losses and did not just write them off as bad luck as several previous doctors had. After my last pregnancy loss she took the time to answer all of the questions that my husband and I had written down. She was also the doctor that mentioned reproductive immunology as a potential avenue to investigate, which helped us identify some of the immune and other causes behind my losses and find a doctor to help address those aspects. I also appreciated that she was willing to work with the different doctors I was seeing across my OB, reproductive immunologist, and others to support my pregnancy. In all of our appointments I appreciated the thoroughness of the scans / monitoring and also saw that she took… the time to review and talk through everything. I definitely recommend Dr. Poggi if you are in need of specialized pregnancy care.

I don’t doubt her medical expertise, however her delivery of information is abysmal at best. She was clearly rushed and somewhat condescending in that she expected quick answers to medical questions about tests etc. as if I was a doctor myself and should know everything off the top of my head to include the many acronyms that test for all different things throughout the pregnancy. Her bedside manner is poor and I left my appointment in tears and spent the next few days upset … after what was a generally uplifting first half of the appointment for my sonogram. This is my first pregnancy and while I’m high risk she took no time to ask how I was feeling, what my goals were in pregnancy/delivery, and it I had any questions. She provided a lot of information about things to be fearful of, told me to take various medications — which seemed a bit aggressive and stated, that I wasn’t the sickest of patients she’s seen. In all honestly, I’m not SICK at all. I have risk factors, yes, but I’m… keeping things in control. Needless to say, she made me feel awful and while she may have the medical background and expertise, I trust the sonagraphers and nurses more. One might argue that patients are more likely to be encouraged to follow doctors advice and orders if they feel their doctor cares about them. It’s not just about medical knowledge, it’s also about how you treat your patients. For this reason, my experience was horrible.

There was a comment made earlier "Worse bed side manner ever. Very cold and unapologetic. Made me feel worse in a already very bad situation." This is exactly how I felt. I think it's not always what you say, but it's how you say it. She was very cold and curt, I did not get a good feeling and she speaks to you as if you should know all the technical terms and understand every word she says when obviously I am not the doctor let alone a OBGYN Specialist. If you're having to go see a specialist then you would hope the doctor would have some sensitivity and have some compassion.

Dr. Poggi was phenomenal she addressed very concern & question that I had. I was very happy and pleased. The staff there is also awesome. I would recommend anyone who is high risk to please contact her she’s awesome.

I was a patient of Dr. Poggi's for ten years. During this time, I experienced a variety of situations in pregnancy-single umbilical artery, twins, umbilical chord failure, and the birth of a child with a chromosomal abnormality. At first, I felt like her demeanor could have been warmer, but over time, I grew to trust her and really appreciated her attentive care. Her experience and intuition in one of my pregnancies was key to saving my son's life. For that, I am forever grateful. After his birth, she even called me at home and assured me that I would find wonderful community to support our new adventure and she was right! I appreciated that call. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and wants the best for you and your baby. Give her a chance and you will grow in your appreciation for the care she provides!

Dr. Poggi is fantastic. She saved my unborn baby's life. At 9 weeks pregnant I developed a blood clot in my right leg. Dr. Poggi worked closely with my hematologist to devise a plan to dissolve the clot in a way so as not to interfere with the placenta. I met weekly or biweekly with Dr. Poggi and my hematologist and my regular OB for the remainder of the pregnancy. All three doctors worked as a team to get me through the pregnancy. I had to take blood thinner shots twice a day for the entire pregnancy, but amazingly apart from the clot the pregnancy was uneventful. My son was born full term--healthy and beautiful. There were a few small complications but Dr. Poggi was always available to answer my questions and to reassure me that everything would be ok. And she was right! She even called me after the delivery to see how i was doing. I cannot believe my good fortune that I had such an attentive and caring doctor. Sadly she will not be my doctor again because i am done with… pregnancy (can you blame me? :) ) but I shall stay in touch with her, and I am forever thankful to her and my whole medical team for the loving attention they gave me. I will miss her a lot!

After eight difficult years trying to get pregnant (and in my late 30’s), my husband and I turned to IVF. We had a successful cycle in 2014, and I was sent to Dr. Poggi to be monitored, in addition to my regular OBGYN. We thought Dr. Poggi was excellent. I always walked out of her office feeling calm, and positive that all would be well with my pregnancy. And it was! I delivered a healthy baby boy in June 2015. We did IVF a second time, in September 2016. Once again, I became pregnant. This pregnancy, however was extremely difficult, with a lot of complications. Very scary ones. (Massive bleeding and several hospital visits). I was seeing Dr. Poggi about every 10 days for the majority of my pregnancy. Her office was like my second home. While she could never guarantee or promise that my baby would be okay, again, I always felt a sense of peace and contentment when leaving her office. Her staff is phenomenal. The gentleman and two ladies at the front desk are always extremely friendly,… and seem to genuinely care about your well being. I would often share pictures with them of my first born, and they would share pictures of their kids, as well! I also especially loved Sylvie, who is one of the ultrasound technicians. I requested her every appointment during both pregnancies. She was excellent, and had a great personality. She, too, was very calming when I was having such a difficult pregnancy. Fast forward to the end of my pregnancy, and once again, I delivered another healthy, happy baby boy! While Dr. Poggi couldn’t tell me what was going to happen throughout my pregnancy, I think that even she was surprised that the entire pregnancy went well. Throughout the entire pregnancy, she helped me try to stay focused and positive, and was always willing to answer any questions I had. I would highly recommend Dr. Poggi to anyone who is needing a maternal fetal specialist.

I could not have asked for better care from Dr. Poggi. My husband and I were faced with a surprise pregnancy when we thought our family was complete. Dr Poggi was able to offer up to date advice, experience and testing to give us peace of mind carrying a baby in my 40's. Each visit she met me with a kind heart and open ears to address all of my concerns.

Went with my daughter today to help her decipher what was going on with her baby. She had an US two weeks prior and was told the head and stomach were too small and may not have enough blood flow from the placenta to the baby. Her excellent tech, Amanda, did an US today, things seemed okay, Dr. Poggi barged in and said they needed to check the baby's oxygenation. After 30 minutes of a non -stress test, she was sent home and instructed by an excellent nurse to repeat in a week. We never saw Dr. Poggi again or received any explanation as to what was going on. My daughter found out the baby had fetal growth retardation by reading it in her online medical profile later. It was just added. How insensitive!!!
