Dr. Savita Vishnu Hegde, MD

I came to Iowa a few years ago from another state. I knew no one here, so I didn't have anyone to ask for a referral. I am a Type II diabetic, and I chose a doctor who was supposed to specialize in that. I didn't get along with that doctor to the point where, after a couple of years of trying, I didn't even want to go to see them. I was completely disappointed and discouraged, and my routine was really suffering. Enter Dr. Hegde. I was referred to her by someone I met by chance, and decided to give her a try. This doctor is ready to discuss all your concerns and answer all your questions. She makes it clear that she is a partner in your wellness, and will give you all the tools and advice you need. No subject is off the table. She talks to you like you are a responsible adult, and not a misbehaving child, as my last doctor did. As a result of seeing Dr. Hegde one time so far, I was immediately encouraged and got the confidence I needed to get back into the swing of taking proper care… of my diabetes. Kudos to Dr. Hegde, and long may she practice here, because I'm preparing to bring the whole family to see her.

I had an appointment and had to wait almost 30 in the waiting room. I finally got to the exam room after the nurse took my vital it was another about 20 minute wait for the doctor. It was my first time there was a new patient. From the time Dr. Hegde walked in the room she was talked almost non-stop barley giving me the change to her my concerns and why I was there. Finally, when she stopped talking and let me explain why I was there, she began interrupting me and offering me medicine that I just told her was making me sick and nauseous. She told me I need to take the medicine so I can continue to be nauseous so I wonâ??t eat and thus lose weight. I could not believe what I was hearing. Not only had that she had NO kindness, sensitivity, or general bedside manner. Iâ??ve never encountered a doctor act in this unprofessional manner. It was literally shocking. Needless to say, I have no intentions of going back.

I began going to Dr. Hegde when she was a new doctor to the UIHC practice in North Liberty over 5 years ago. My entire family has her as their doctor. I have never met a doctor that is so patient and pays attention to detail like Dr. Hegde. Despite my divorce nearly 5 years ago, she still remembers to ask about my ex-husband and his well-being, despite the fact my ex-husband no longer sees her (he moved out of state). Only once has she been late (only 10 minutes) for an appointment, and even then, was overly-apologetic. She is patient care at its best! She follows-up personally whenever possible to test results and diagnosis.

She is a great doctor, who genuinely cares for me and my family. My whole family has seen her. She will listen to you and help you figure out what is going on. She calls after hours and checks on you if there was something major. After many doctors, she finally helped me figure out what was going on, food malabsorptions. She is always pleasant and her nurse is great too. They both have a great memory.
