His special interests include open and minimally invasive approaches to mitral valve repair, Cox and modified Maze procedure and apical aortic conduit for aortic stenosis. In addition, he specializes in thoracic surgeries which include lung and mediastinal tumors. Dr. Brewster is currently a principal investigator with the PARTNER trial for beating heart aortic valve replacement.

Dr. Brewster received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He served his internship and residency specializing in general surgery at the University of Texas at Dallas. He served a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Utah Medical Center.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology, and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Western Thoracic Surgical Association. He has been listed as one of San Diegos "Top Doctors."
