Dr. Scott Alan Berger, MD

I happened upon Dr. Berger thru an educational site on the rare iron loading disease - Hemachromatosis. He was listed as an expert in the care of it which is very difficult to find. I have had a difficult time finding a doctor who is educated in the management of the disorder and excited to start being seen by a doctor who was well familiar with it. Unfortunately his office staff would not schedule me with him since he "only sees patients who are already established". So the one star rating is not for his ability nor his knowledge rather his protocol.

This Doctor is csn do okay at procedures but very bad at follow up. If you have something really wrong , you are wasting your time going to him.

Dr. Berger an his staff are incredible, thorough, polite and extremely caring and patient. I have been Dr Bergers patient for over 10 years. Regretably his office no longer accepts my insurance so am in the process of tryng to find another physician. Going to be a tough job finding one that measures up to this practices standards

I am very disappointed with my experience TRYING to see this dr. I made an appointment and had to wait 6 weeks to get in even though I was having medical issues. On the DAY of my appointment, they called to cancel and said I needed to wait another 4 weeks to get a "preferred appointment". I felt no compassion from the staff or trying to accomodate me any sooner. I explained my medical issues, to which she said "so, do you want the appointment 4 weeks from now?". This dr was recommended, but I will not be going to him. I will find a dr that will ACTUALLY see me.

Dr. Berger has been our entire family doctor for a very long time. He first saw my mom in the hospital. He was so kind and patient with her, always took time to listen to her ailments. His diagnosis was very accurate each and every time. My mother loved this doctor to death. My family all started seeing him for our gastro problems. If you want a thorough , kind, passionate doctor , he is the best around. Only problem is getting appointments there usually is a long wait time.

Dr. Berger exhibited a stunning lack of curiosity and interest in how I overcame an incorrect diagnosis of Crohn's disease via diet modification - NOT prescribed pills (such as steroids).He simply said I never had Crohn's and didn't know what I did or what was wrong. Well, I told him exactly what it was and what I did and how those clowns misdiagnosed me and others, I suppose.If you are celiac or gluten intolerant, change your diet. Do it now and then in a few years, you'll be fine.Doctors (even specialists) are totally incompetent in this area.

I recently saw Dr. Berger to discuss pain and burning in my chest that had been going on for months. It took 6 weeks to get the appointment, but it was worth the wait. I arrived a little early, filled out the paperwork and relaxed in front of the fireplace in his waiting room. Although he was running a few minutes behind, the staff was excellent at letting me know this so that I was able to step outside and return a few business calls while I waited. I was then escorted to the examination room, which was very comfortable and even had a TV that I could control. Dr. Berger spent over 30 minutes with me discussing the history of my medical complaints and going over the possible causes. He recommended that I have an endoscopy and, due to my family history, a colonoscopy at the same time. He was extremely thorough, allowed me to ask numerous questions and had a very nice bedside manner.I was then escorted to Dr. Berger's scheduling nurse. She asked when I wanted to have my tests done… and I told her the next available appointment. She was able to schedule me for 10:00am the next day. She then reviewed all the prep instructions for me and emailed my pharmacy the prescription for the prep drink. She then escorted me to the insurance coordinator for Dr. Berger. This very nice lady took down all my information and told me she would contact my insurance company to get preapproval and to figure out how much I would be responsible for. My insurance company is notoriously difficult, so getting this piece in place took several phone calls by me and Dr. Berger's staff. The staff was fabulous about this and called me repeatedly to let me know where we were in the process.The next morning I arrived at 9:15 for the procedures. The surgical center where the procedures were done is attached to Dr. Berger's office and is one of the nicest facilities I have ever been in. Dr. Berger was running a few minutes late, but I was informed of this fact and waited comfortably in the waiting room. When I was taken into the surgical area, I was greeted by a nurse who reviewed my chart and got me set up with an IV. At every point in this process each of the employees told me that their overall goal was excellence. I really appreciated this. I then met with the anesthesiologist who was also very good. Shortly before the procedure Dr. Berger came to talk to me. The first thing he did was apologize to me for the fact that I had to wait a few minutes for him that day and the day before. He has such a calm and gentle manner that is a pleasure to deal with him. He explained how the procedures would be done, what he would be looking for and what would happen after the procedure. I also met the nurse who would assist and saw the anesthesiologist again. Thirty seconds later, I was sound asleep.I woke up later and Dr. Berger was there to tell me what he had found and to let me know that the biopsy results would be back in 1-2 weeks. He gave me my discharge instructions and a few minutes later I was able to leave with my husband.Nine days later -- on a Sunday -- Dr. Berger called to give me the results of my biopsies. He apologized profusely for calling on a Sunday, but I told him that I appreciated his making the time to call. He went over the results of the biopsies and told me his office would be calling in a medication on Monday. He said that his goal was for me to have "zero symptoms" and if I did not attain that with the medication, I should call him.My epxerience with Dr. Berger was one of the best I have ever had with a doctor. He is professional, thorough, gentle and he runs a very good office and surgical center.I highly recommend him.
